Fred Flintstone's Age

Since we are entertaining facts of intrinsic value, how old is Fred Flintstone? Early 40's or late 40's or early 50's? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 186.12.95.177 (talk) 17:32, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

Tense

Let's please use the present tense when writing about the content of fiction. For example, "Fred Flintsone lives in Bedrock," not "Fred Flintsone lived in Bedrock."--60.43.34.23 03:02, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Barney's Occupation

Actually, it is not very clear what Barney did for a living. At times Barney and Fred would work at the Quarry together. At one time, Barney filled in for Fred's supervisor to hilarious results. At other times he worked at a bowling alley and one other time was quote as a "geological engineer." It was in later years of the series when Barney settled in as Fred's coworker.

Allegedly, Barney was considered Fred Flintstone's "right-hand-man" in the organized crime ring that Fred had run with partners in the Quarry workers' union. A known incident of Fred and Barney's criminal involvement is documented in Ep-19 "The Big Bank Robbery" where the duo "accidentally" acquire $86,000 worth of stolen merchandise only to claim they mistakenly acquired such goods. Sources close to both Fred and Barney report that Such merchandise was to be transported overseas to a black market ring run by the Japanese Yakuza. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.154.91.225 (talk) 15:28, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

I thought he worked at the quarry all the time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.230.152.143 (talk) 14:29, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Inspiration for Fred

Do we have a source that Fred Flintstone was based upon Ralph Cramden? And not just a speculative writer, but perhaps something the creator himself said? 66.75.8.138 23:46, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

  • A Running joke is that Fred will be outwitted by his nemisis Arnold the Newsboy-in one epsiode Arnold tricks Fred into twice playing double for his newspaper!!

Birth Date

I'm a bit confused about the birthdate. 1921? Shouldn't it be "something" B.C.?

What?

Why does it say, {{Infobox character | alias = Frederick F. Flintstone

Hes a very old cartoon

Image?

Is there a specific reason there's no image, or has nobody gotten around to adding one? Is there a WP guideline that mentions the use of nonfree images to illustrate articles about cartoon characters? --Minderbinder (talk) 17:27, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Masons and Buffalos

The article says that the Orders of Buffaloes and Dinosaurs are "clearly modelled on Freemasonry", but I would have thought there was a closer inspiration in the British quasi-Masonic Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes, which has been going since the early 19th century.

Portrayed by...

Why are there so many voice actors listed under the "Portrayed by" section of the infobox? Most of the instances listed in the infoboxes are non-notable (such as Family Guy, Robot Chicken, Johnny Bravo, Harvey Birdman, and a Toshiba Commercial?) I'm going to remove those the instances that he is portrayed by that I deem are non-notable. I believe Wikipedia should only report the voice actors who have portrayed Fred Flintstone in a notable instance, not in petty cartoons like Robot Chicken or a commercial. 70.156.237.3 (talk) 02:49, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Other women

Someone has attempted to delete this section; their point is taken, not because the section is offensive, so much as that it's unsourced, and there's no indication why it merits a stand-alone segment, as a particularly important character trait. Undue weight...no pun intended, Fred. 99.12.242.7 (talk) 15:47, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

  • While I've edited this section/deleted some questionable information, I still vote for it to be deleted as well (don't see what use it serves, besides a reference to the occasional gag of women flirting with Fred). Johnny Nevada (talk) 17:23, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

Appearance based on Alan Reed?

Anyone who has seen Alan Reed on camera (his scene in Breakfast at Tiffany's being probably the best example) can't help but notice how much he looks like Fred. Does anyone know if the physical appearance of the character was based upon Reed? I see there is an autobiography by Reed included in the sources - does he mention this? 70.72.215.252 (talk) 17:14, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Fred's species

Someone actually analyzed Fred's appearance, his cranial capacity, and seemingly absent forehead, and came to the conclusion that he is a Homo erectus Booger-mike (talk) 20:56, 31 July 2019 (UTC)

Daws Butler

Over the past few days, an IP user has been editing Daws Butler's contributions to the Fred Flintstone character, changing the article so that Daws appears to portray the character for several years, and citing included refs to support the changes.

It's very difficult to talk to a user who won't use an account, so here are the edit summaries that have been entered:

  • 2020-08-30T14:02:00‎ UncleBubba Rv unexplained, unsourced change in article data without corresponding change in ref. Please explain what you're doing and why.
  • 2020-08-30T14:09:23‎ IPv6 He didn't take the ver the role until 1977. He was also the singing voice in 1966.
  • 2020-08-30T19:41:42‎ CycloneYoris Unsourced and unexplained changes.
  • 2020-08-31T08:46:10‎ IPv6 Having the en dash would make the info in Daws butler more easier. Plus, Corden was the singing voice in 1966 and he didn't physically took over the role until 1977.
  • 2020-08-31T16:58:37‎ UncleBubba Rv unsourced change in article text. Please cite a reliable source for this addition.
  • 2020-08-31T23:22:34‎ IPv6 The source is also there, plus an en dash is not a big deal.
  • 2020-09-01T06:24:15‎ No Great Shaker unnecessary
  • 2020-09-01T16:20:47‎ IPv6 How is an "en dash" a big deal?
  • 2020-09-01T16:50:42‎ UncleBubba It's *not* an en dash that's causing the problem. You're trying to change information in the article without citing a reliable source, and it looks very much like you're trying to sneak it in by hiding it behind your "en dash" edit. Your not-signed-on edits don't get added to the article without approval, anyway.
  • 2020-09-02T13:52:24‎ IPv6 I'm not sneaking this en dash in anywhere, I just thought this would make the info more easier for views. Give me a break UncleBubba, no offense.
  • 2020-09-02T13:55:49‎ UncleBubba Rv radical change in date. The sources here state Daws acted only in the pilot episode (as "Fred Flagstone"). You're trying to change the date to a range from 1959-1973, and that's not supported by any sources cited here. Please cite some reliable sources, or stop making this change.
  • 2020-09-02T16:16:38‎ IPv6 The sources also states that he voiced him again in 1973 for the Hanna-Barbera Characters Talk ‘Safety’ record and again in 1987 for the Hanna Barbera Canadian Winderland Show. So what!?!?!?
  • 2020-09-02T18:11:35‎ CycloneYoris: The difference is that he was only voiced by Daws on each pilot episode, and not on the whole show as you're trying to imply.

I can't find any evidence to support these claims, and I've looked at the cited sources:

  • [1] is a link to an article about a Hanna-Barbera children's record on safety, released in 1973. Daws Butler is mentioned in this piece as having voiced "Quick Draw McGraw, Yogi Bear, Top Cat, Snagglepuss, Peter Potamus, Touché Turtle, Dum-Dum, Magilla Gorilla, Barney Rubble, Wally Gator, Dixie, Fred Flintstone, Huckleberry Hound, Boo-Boo, Ricochet Rabbit, So-So, Lippy the Lion, Augie Doggie, Yakky Doodle, Super Snooper, Elroy Jetson", so he was a busy boy.
  • [2] is a link to a YouTube video of a low-budget, song-and-dance stage number that does include Fred Flintstone. There are no pre-roll or following credits, and he's in costume the whole time, so no one can tell who the actor is (and that's 10 minutes of my life I won't get back).

Once again, we're back to the original problem (which happens far to often here at Wikipedia): the IP editor wants to change the article to reflect something he knows is true, but he's not willing to take the time to cite reliable sources for his assertions. It would be funny if it wasn't such a damned waste of time.

So, please, IPv6, come here and talk about what you're trying to do so you can either build consensus for doing it, or leave it alone. Your choice. — UncleBubba T @ C ) 01:45, 3 September 2020 (UTC)

I actually understood now on why you were deleting it, see my reply in "Daws Butler, Part II". 2600:1000:B007:4C74:65FC:BEC7:C9A0:30B2 (talk) 15:49, 4 September 2020 (UTC)
