Before 1806 all of what is today Germany was part of the Holy Roman Empire. The Empire was a loose connection of various states, and by the 18th-century most of the real political power was held by the various states that made up the empire, which numbered at least in the dozens at that point. Many of those states also controlled non-congtiguous units. A more specific category for what specific state he left might be more helpful, but we should not use the illdefined "Germany" to capture his emigration.John Pack Lambert (talk) 17:26, 21 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
