Move to GLaDOS?

GLaDOS redirects to the main Portal article. Shouldn't this page be moved to GLaDOS instead? - ^VeetiPaananen ^(talk) 15:07, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Suggestion

Something I recall reading in a lot of the publications and reviews at the time Portal was released were comparisons to SHODAN from the System Shock series. Perhaps at least worth a mention? Rehevkor ✉ 00:33, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Well, I did see A comparison, complaining about GLaDOS beating SHODAN on the 1UP top five. It didn't seem very notable. But yes, I haven't actually gone through the Metacritic/Game Rankings links, only Google News. - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! The degree to which GLaDOS is similar to SHODAN is pretty significant. In System Shock, SHODAN even uses similar threats as GLaDOS; the most direct similarity (other than their quavering, multi-tonal, distorted voices) is a line of SHODAN's thanking the Hacker for doing her work for her. SHODAN instructs the Hacker to "remain where you are, and a cortex reaver will arrive shortly to escort you to the celebration." Compare with GLaDOS' instructions to "assume the party position" so that you can be escorted "to the party where there will be cake." Atypicaloracle (talk) 08:41, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

Still Alive

I have to admit, as someone that's worked heavily on character articles the section feels out of place and detracts for the subject of the character itself. There's development and reuse information for the song, so it might be viable as its own separate article as a single. If not, there's possibly the Portal article itself...it just doesn't work very well here.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 20:05, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Well, I think the section is fairly relevant to her; it's sung by the character, and is often linked to her. And when it comes to splitting, I'm not sure. Adding a non-free sound clip

I think we can reasonably add a non-free sound clip to this, as the article describes how McLain's voice is modulated. We need a phrase that captures the awkward up-down tones that is heard, so I'm thinking something as simple as the "Welcome to the Aperture Science Enrichment Center." at the very start of the game. Question is, can we pull that out from the Steam files (if it already isn't floating around on the net somewhere). --MASEM (t) 18:16, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Reason for the facility being abandoned.

Nowhere in the game does it ever state explicitly the reason for the facility being abandoned. It can not even be assumed that the reason was the release of the neurotoxin. The fact that the morality module was installed after the release of the neurotoxin means that there were scientists and engineers in the facility. Also, since the game takes place in the Half-Life universe it is far more likely that the reason for the abandoned facility is the Combine's invasion of Earth. Unless someone can provide unambiguous evidence for the facilities abandonment I'm going to edit that section and remove the speculative elements. Dr. Morbius (talk) 21:27, 5 March 2010 (UTC).

I disagree that what can be seen from the parking lot of the facility can be used as a reliable indicator of Earthly peacefulness. For example, there are many parts of Highway 17 and White Forest that are calm and quiet, without a Combine soldier in sight. --Geniac (talk) 01:16, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

By the way, this sentence makes no sense, "Since the Module had been installed, it can be assumed that the release happened as the Module was being installed, forcing the scientists to abandon the facility." What? This is pure speculation and is only justified as a means to explain how the module could be installed while the base is abandoned. But if that is the case why didn't the personnel just wait for the gas to clear or wear gas masks and then reenter the base?
