Jetspecs[edit]

Hi Burbank and thanks for adding to this article! I actually prefer your recent edit moving the engine cycle data to a separate subsection much better than the (rather messy) standard jetspec template. May I suggest you propose so modifying it to the WP Aircraft community? Askari Mark | Talk 19:36, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

LCA does not have horizontal tail???[edit]

LCA has a clipped delta wing airframe. Generally planes with delta wing do not have a horizontal tail, so such things do not need mention. even jane's has stupid people so plz use your common sense. ciao User:Kaushal mehta

Those of us who have a basic knowledge of aircraft understand that, but Wikipedia is a general encyclopedia and it is not a "common sense" understanding among those who know little or nothing about engineering details. Askari Mark (Talk) 18:51, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Point taken, thank you for making me realize that.Kaushal mehta 06:07, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kaveri Marine Gas Turbine and expected engine specifications[edit]

[1] This Indian Ministry of Defence report says that a kaveri engine for ships has been tested and its use in ships as engine is being planned. Also the DRDO product webpage has the expected specifications for the engine. Can this material be put in a standard template?Kaushal mehta 10:43, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Despite the "Kaveri" name, the KMGT and the GTX-35VS are quite different propulsion systems. The former is marine gas turbine powerplant, while the latter is an aircraft turbofan engine. Basically, as far as powerplant systems go, the KMGT is to a ship's powerplant what the Kabini is to the GTX-35VS. The ship's turbine is used to drive the steam powerplant that actually propels the ship, and it does so in a "closed-loop" configuration. (Also, the KMGT is not the powerplant for Tejas-Navy, as is sometimes mistakenly reported by the Indian press.) It is more accurate to say that the KMGT is being developed based on the turbine engine design and development experience GTRE has obtained through the GTX-35VS and earlier programs. Certainly, many parts of the GTX-35VS can be used on the marine turbine, but many others will need to be modified in terms of materials, modifications for a closed-loop system, and different operating conditions (such as running hot for days and weeks, rather than hours, at a time). In any case, the KMGT should probably deserve an article of its own, with this particular article needs only a mention of the relationship and a link to the KMGT article.
I looked around the WikiProject Ships page, but apparently they do not have a specification template for marine powerplants, and their infobox design does not go beyond simply listing the powerplant. You might post a question on that Wikiproject's talk page and ask for help to develop one (possibly based on that for WP:AIR). Simply using the aircraft spec table would not work, since a number of nautical powerplant specifications are different than the ones employed in the aerospace world. The line: "Turbine entry temperature: 2,218-2,601 °F (1,214-1,427 °C; 1,487-1,700 K) [Goal: 3,357 °F (1,847 °C; 2,120 K)]" Is a bit strange. A goal that is +25% of what you managed after years of hard work seem delusional, especially working with a fixed set of materials. Yes others with way more experience managed, but still sounds unrealistic. Maybe this is not a encyclopedic fact but wishful thinking. I would put those numbers in Kelvin first. --89.14.72.75 (talk) 12:15, 9 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Kaveri cancelled for production Tejas[edit]

In September 2008, reliable souces reported that the Kaveri had been cancelled as the production engine for the Tejas. An IP user has been removing this info without providing any proof that this decision has been overturned. This very brief report states that the Kaveri will be installed in the Kaveri by Dec 2009, but that's all it says. I'm assuming it's just part of continuing tests, as the Tejas was designed for the Kaveri, and thus is the best aircraft to fly the engine in for testing. Because the cancellation was reported in September 2008, it cannot just be removed, as the reports happened. If the reports were wrong, or if the cancellation was overturned, sources saying that must be provided. per WP:V and WP:RS. Thanks. - BillCJ (talk) 18:54, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Kaveri hasn't been cancelled but has been delinked from the Tejas program. The development is ongoing and the engine will be fitted onto Tejas by the end of 2009 for user trials.[2] johnxxx9 (talk) 22:54, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Variable cycle comment[edit]

This engine is far from being a variable cycle engine, it is at best a mediocre attempt at a low bypass turbofan. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.165.25.223 (talk) 11:20, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
