designer[edit]

The 645 class was designed by GEORGE not JOSEPH Armstrong, like all locomotives built at Wolverhampton after Joseph's departure for Swindon in 1864.

Reference: H. Holcroft, The Armstrongs of the Great Western, 1953, and dozens of later books on the GWR.

Sadly this error has already been copied onto other websites - the power of Wikipedia! Such as

NB Joseph was my great-great-grandfather and George thus my great-great-uncle and I would be happy to spend some time sorting out this rather messy internet situation, with much confusion between the brothers.

Done Amended, using a different Holcroft book as ref source (because I don't have the book you mention). See Talk:GWR 517 Class#designer regarding the websites you mention. --Redrose64 (talk) 14:20, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
