ENGVAR

Is this article supposed to be in UKEng or USEng? It currently contains examples of both, which is unsatisfactory. --John (talk) 22:22, 17 April 2014 (UTC)

It was predominantly written by Canadians. Which may explain your confusion. (It's also theirs...) --jbmurray (talkcontribs) 22:42, 17 April 2014 (UTC)

Loss

What a huge loss for Latin literature. At least the article isn't an embarrassment like many author articles on here though! It could still use some restructuring and sourcing improvement though IMO.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:31, 18 April 2014 (UTC)

One of the reasons that this is a reasonably good article is that it was the subject of two educational assignments. --jbmurray (talkcontribs) 20:26, 18 April 2014 (UTC)

Leaving Colombia

I don't have the time right now, but if someone else does, I think it could be useful to add some information on the threats he faced in Colombia and why he exiled himself in Mexico: [1] [2]. Cheers, -- Irn (talk) 18:26, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

"tourdepictsist"?!

From the section on Macondo: "This fictional town has become well known in the literary world. As Stavans notes of Macondo, "its geography and inhabitants constantly invoked by teachers, politicians, and tourdepictsist agents..."

"tourdepictsist"? This word has been there since 2008, but I'll be damned if it looks right! Anyone have the original source to see what should be there? Perhaps simply "Tourist agents"? How can this have persisted for eight long years? --Mwanner | Talk 12:16, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

Good call. Jstor has the original text available freely online: it's "tourist". Cheers, -- Irn (talk) 15:33, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

Education and Adulthood

I'm inserting a section from the Spanish wiki for Gabriel Garcia Márquez on his education and adulthood that isn't found or isn't covered completely in the English article.Sandiego25 (talk) 23:48, 3 December 2016 (UTC)

Mexican nationality

People occasionally try to insert changes that García Márquez had Mexican nationality, but I've yet to see a reliable source for the claim. I just did some searching, and the closest I could find was this article, which ends with the claim that Mexican was his "second nationality". The context and tone of the piece make me think it's more poetic than making a factual claim. On the other hand, this piece asserts that he never became a naturalized citizen of Mexico. -- irn (talk) 16:57, 6 March 2018 (UTC)

For what it's worth, there was a discussion on the talk page in Spanish, which included one other citation to the same source for him having Mexican nationality[3] and some quotations from García Márquez himself rejecting Mexican citizenship and noting that it's illegal for him, as a foreigner, to participate in Mexican politics.[4] -- irn (talk) 23:06, 6 March 2018 (UTC)

Opera inspired by GGM

The subsection is entitled "Film and opera" but actually has no references to opera! The Wikipedia article Florencia en el Amazonasstates of the opera: "It contains elements of magical realism in the style of Gabriel García Márquez..."

Composer: Daniel Catán

Librettist: Marcela Fuentes-Berain

Premiere: Houston Grand Opera, 1996

New production by the NY Metropolitan Opera in December 2023, the first opera in Spanish in almost 100 years at the Met. Ref.: https://erwindreessen.substack.com/p/florencia-en-el-amazonas

Sorry, doing an actual edit is too daunting for me. Hoping someone more skilled will pick this up.
