Content and sources to merge[edit]

Apparently this article has been sitting here neglected and quite out of date. I will merge some of the content from the I-96 and I-75 articles to expand and update this one. Imzadi 1979  09:21, 21 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

From I-96:

Beginning on February 25, 2008, MDOT and the Detroit International Bridge Company initiated the Ambassador Gateway Project at the eastern end of I-96. The adjacent section of I-75 closed completely to traffic in both directions to start the complete reconstruction of the road to better connect I-75 and I-96 to the Ambassador Bridge, and the plans included the reconstruction of a mile (1.6 km) of I-96.[1] That segment of I-96 closed on July 14, 2008,Cite error: The <ref> tag has too many names (see the help page). and it was scheduled to reopen a month early the following September.[2] The overall project to realign ramps and connect the bridge to the freeways was mired in lawsuits between MDOT and the private company that owns the bridge. The company's owner was jailed for contempt of court during court proceedings in early 2012.[3] MDOT was later ordered to assume responsibility for construction,[4] and the department completed the project on September 21, 2012.[5]

From I-75:

Construction in 2007 during the Gateway Project

Beginning on February 25, 2008, I-75 closed completely to traffic in both directions from Rosa Parks Boulevard (exit 49) to Clark Street (exit 47) in Detroit. This facilitated the complete rebuilding of the road as part of the Ambassador Gateway Project to better connect I-75 and I-96 to the Ambassador Bridge. Through traffic on I-75 was rerouted along I-94 to I-275 and local detours were posted.[1] The freeway reopened to traffic in June 2009, five months ahead of schedule.[6] The overall project to realign and connect the bridge to the freeways was mired in lawsuits between MDOT and the private company that owns the bridge. The company's owner was jailed for contempt of court during court proceedings in early 2012.[3] MDOT was later ordered to assume responsibility for construction,[4] and the department completed the project on September 21, 2012.[5]

Ok, here's my rationale why I redirected it. This project is questionably notable. Yes, it made a lot of news over an extended period of time, but there's not much impact to it. The project improved and created connections between the bridge and the adjacent freeways. The I-75 and I-96 articles already cover this, and the Ambassador Bridge article can as well. However, most of the work impacted I-75, which is why I'm point this there. A lot of the article wasn't cited at this time. At a later date, if someone wants to provide proper citations and trim back some of the unneeded content that was here, then we can restore the article.
