Confusing and Misleading

First of all, there have been several Monk albums called "Genius of Modern Music, Vol. 1." There is an earlier CD with an entirely different lineup of songs. There is also a CD called "Complete Genius of Modern Music" which collects all of volumes 1 & 2 of the earlier CDs. Though the current CD seems to use artwork from an old LP, the track selections do not remotely match up. So calling it an "expansion" or "reissue" seems like a misnomer.

Secondly, it is unlikely that the original volume 1 was released in 1947, as LPs did not appear until 1948. Is it possible that the original was a 1950's compilation of these early tracks?

Merge attribution

I merged Genius of Modern Music, Volume Two [1] (BLP 1511) into Genius of Modern Music, Volume One [2] (BLP 1510) and moved here [3]. I restored and moved the Genius of Modern Music ten inch [4] and left and moved the Genius of Modern Music, Vol. 2 10" [5] TlonicChronic (talk) 06:43, 2 January 2024 (UTC)

So why hasn't Genius of Modern Music, Vol. 2 been redirected here. Now Volume 2 info is in two places? I'm not sure of your efforts to combine different releases into one article. If you can't find sources, redirecting to the artist page or the artist's discography page may be more appropriate. If there are sources out there but lacking in the article, perhaps an effort can be made to expand the existing articles from those. They are separate releases. The 10"s and 12"s are entirely separate series on Blue Note, but they always reused the name. "New Faces New Sounds" and "Genius of Modern Music" were simply common Blue Note titles.
Sources can be probably found, but I wasn't adding to the articles and looking or sources I was merely cleaning up; all of the information and sources were already present in the articles. I combined volumes one and two of the twelve inches because they are released concurrently and always reissued together, which isn't the case for the 10"s (they're just separate albums. So now we have an article about the two original 12" releases, and one article about the vol 2 of the 10"? I don't think you've really improved matters. In fact I think this is a lot more confusing than the prior state of affairs; especially since modern reissues toggle between the 10" and 12" artwork; and also since, in the digital era, the same material was further redistributed between various volume 1's and 2's.

Much collaborative work got us to the prior compromise.

Please revert.

Isn't that literally you? Separating the 10" studio albums (which are separate) and combining the 12" compilations literally solves this issue. TlonicChronic (talk) 02:04, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

The 10" albums are also compilations, and the 12" albums are reformattings and expansions of the compilations. In both cases, they are rereleases of recordings which initially came out on 78 rpm singles. Sojambi Pinola (talk) 10:00, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
