coverage of Feicks in wikipedia[edit]

Hi Cbl62, I see you are developing this article nicely, thanks for applying your research skills to address it! Maybe we can end up discussing, here, how and where the various notable Feick builders and architects and firms are to be covered in wikipedia. So far there is this "George Feick" article in progress, and there is Purcell & Elmslie article to which "Purcell, Feick & Elmslie" is currently a redirect. Maybe George Feick, Jr. should be covered in a section of the Purcell et al. article. Mostly from reading through one of the Barbara Feick webpages, it seems to me that Feick and Purcell started that firm, then Elmslie joined, then Elmslie became a named principal, then Feick left (maybe to return to the building business in Sandusky), contrary to some of the current treatment in that article. It seems that Feick was less into the architectural stuff, and is a less important person architecturally than Purcell & Elmslie, but he was there at the beginning of that firm, and therefore seems perhaps best treated in that article. Again per my note to your talk page i'll gladly defer to you, but am happy to discuss, also. And maybe the discussion if any should be kept here with one of the Feick-related articles.

I note the current version of this article still has one of the Purcell & Feick works, which maybe would properly move to, or be duplicated at, the Purcell etc article. And I note a number of works that were in "other" section here are gone, probably to be added to the other article, i suppose. Glad to help. Yes, I trimmed the "see also" section to eliminate the Purcell works, as they don't seem relevant to the George Feick article. If those works belong anywhere, it would more likely be in the Purcell & Elmslie article. I kept the Feick Building entry because other sources indicate that it was built by George Feick's company. It's likely that the Purcell firm did the design work and Feick, Sr., firm did the construction. Cbl62 (talk) 03:33, 27 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Please see, at midpoint down a long page, the copies of several texts about George Feick Jr. and Purcell having been fellow Cornell students, then choosing to go on a European tour in 1906-1907, and returning to go to Minneapolis and start their architectural practice. This material seems to have been typed in by Barbara Feick from several named sources. Appears midway down http://barbfeick.com/FeickHistory/National_Register.htm. Purcell already seemed more serious abou the architecture, i guess, in his choosing to visit architects in Europe that Feick did not. --doncram 18:29, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It appears that George, Jr., began with his father's firm, George Feick & Sons in the early 1900s. He practiced with Purcell for only seven years (c. 1907-1914) and then returned to Sandusky. It's unclear from these sources how big a role he played in the Purcell firm, and there's very little indicating how he spent his time after 1914 (other than Barbara Feick's family history page which may or may not constitute a reliable source). With the lack of sourcing to indicate how significant a role that George, Jr., played in the Purcell firm, or indicating that he did anything particularly notable on his own, I have my doubts as to whether he merits an article. If you want to create a re-direct, I don't have a strong view on whether it should direct to the George Feick or Purcell article. Cbl62 (talk) 03:33, 27 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree about George Feick, Jr.'s lesser importance, and note no source even giving birth and death dates (though you might have found one), so not starting an article. I've now redirected George Feick, Jr. to the Purcell & Elmslie article and edited there a bit, including adding NRHP listings. I'll add note at its Talk page to this discussion. Thanks for an amazing job developing this George Feick article, sorting out many relationships. I also may revise here just a tad, e.g. adding a bolding to allow for Adam Feick to be redirected to here. --doncram 04:39, 28 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
