George Mahon (accountant) → George Mahon (Everton FC) – George Mahon is better known as a founding father and former chairman of Everton Football Club than for being an accountant. He is most famous for his involvement in the football club's move from Anfield to Goodison Park. It would be more helpful to recognise his footballing role because people are more likely to search for information about him because of his part in the history of Everton Football Club. The history of Everton FC also involves a connection to Liverpool Football Club through the ground move from Anfield to Goodison Park. Supporters of both clubs associate George Mahon with Everton FC and not for being an accountant C3MC2 (talk) 13:43, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Support. From the start-class article so far, it would appear that Mahon is best known for his involvement with Everton. If and when the article is developed, it may turn out that other aspects of his career (such as his involvement in the Liberal Party and the Irish Home Rule movement) were more significant; but for now, Everton appears to be the main reason for his notability. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 12:13, 16 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Weak oppose I don't doubt that Mahon's involvement with Everton is his primary claim to notability, per WP:NCPDAB, a disambiguator "is usually a noun indicating what the person is noted for being," rather than an organisation with which the person is affiliated. Consistency is important too; no other Everton chairmen seem to use such disambiguators. Looking over Category:English football chairmen and investors, I wonder if George Mahon (football chairman) would be an improvement. Even George Mahon (English politician) probably describes his notability more so than his being an accountant. Regardless, if we do go with an Everton disambiguator, it should be George Mahon (Everton F.C.), to match Everton F.C. --BDD (talk) 18:33, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Support move to George Mahon (Everton F. C. chairman). So far, agreement is actually unanimous (even among the opposers) that some sort of move ought to take place. The major question is the nature of the disambiguating phrase. It is a valid point that "Everton F. C." implies Mr. Mahon was a player, which he clearly wasn't. The phrase "football administrator" (or the like) is less precise: as long as we are compelled to use a hefty disambiguator, we might as well strive for precision.
