Disputable nationality[edit]

Bulmer was born in, and died in, the United States. He held an American Social Security number, assigned in the early years of Social Security, prior to 1951. Unfortunately, the source for SS is unreliable.[1] However, reputedly reliable texts insist he was Canadian. I have the feeling he was one of the Americans who went to Canada to enlist as a "Canadian", but without his attestation papers, who knows?

If another contributor can clarify this, please do.

P.S. American "Canadians" generally did not swear allegiance to the British Crown in their attestations, although Canadian Canadians did. This was apparently done so Americans would not lose their citizenship.
