Let's hear it for the "Vandalism Hunter"[edit]

Identified as test/vandalism? methinks there is a bit too much caffeine in the user's system. The change was one word: from "fame", which has positive connotations, to "notoriety", which is negative, and which is what Hannon garnered when he wrote the article "Boys Loving Men Loving Boys".

The "editor" reverted to fame, which begs the question - does s/he regard Hannon and his stance on the subject favourably? That would not accord with the furious and extensive negative reaction to Hannon's article - and that at a time when the concepts of "child porn" and "child sexual abuse" had not yet risen to the level of flashpoints.

On the other hand, this is perhaps a sign of muddy thinking, of degradation of the language (which also gives us "it is very concerning", the deep-rooted confusion regarding bring/take and their ilk, the addition of "up" to any verb, as if "let's change the sentence" were not specific enough - and ad nauseam). Or - perhaps most likely - living in Hong Kong the user has not fully appreciated the loathing and vituperation that descended upon Hannon and his publications as we neared the end of the Seventies and people began to react against much of what they perceived as "licentiousness". In any event, I will leave it here. I would not bother posting this except that in my recent readings of WP pages I have become aware of the proprietary attitude and obsessive/possessive nature of many of the users who wish to take more active roles in the project. 184.147.111.85 (talk) 17:19, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
