Unbalanced article[edit]

This is clearly not a neutral page. Can we get a tone rewrite? 74.141.50.215 (talk) 13:07, 22 September 2016 (UTC) I agree... while the information contained in the article is mostly accurate, the possible benefits of gestation crates are not listed (if there are any?) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:3620:E40:C13B:110C:A3D4:F9C2 (talk) 04:17, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It's not going to be possible to create an article that appears neutral to everybody, because there is a lot of cultural variation in attitudes. For example, the vast majority of people in the UK think that farrowing crates are disgusting and inhumane, which is why they are banned there. If you are an Iowa hog farmer then you are likely to have a different opinion. --Ef80 (talk) 09:45, 1 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The article does mention studies that support crating, in the "welfare" section.

Map accuracy[edit]

Gestation cages have been banned in 9 states (Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Maine, Michigan, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island) and the map should not be on the page until it is accurate.

pop culture[edit]

The daily show is notable pop culture. If you have an issue, raise it here before deleting content.BuddhistSagan (talk) 02:25, 19 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

map colors[edit]

I'm red-green colorblind (as are ~5% of men), and I can't make anything of the map -- it looks like one indeterminate mass. Could we re-do it with different colors? 2602:306:C454:A460:8CDF:8DA5:D8C6:91EC (talk) 01:42, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

rearranging "welfare" section[edit]

I just rearranged some of the text in the "welfare" section because it didn't follow smoothly. I haven't changed the content at all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.219.120.212 (talk) 10:37, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV, RS, When[edit]

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sow_stalls_us_map.svg

This file is completely unmaintainable. Various paths are identified being certain states but are overdrawn (by slightly distinct, unidentified paths). As someone noted on its talk page, poor Michigan apparently has split laws according to this file (color me doubtful). There are no sources so it can't easily be updated and it hasn't been updated in 7 years so it's probably out of date.

Meanwhile the whole image is one big NPOV violation, with the red color of "unbanned" states implying that gestation crates are bad. (The alternative interpretation of the coloring, "absence", would make sense if this image were used on a page called "Gestation crate banning"... but it's not). Red#Symbolism

Given that most "legalization maps" on Wikipedia use green for "legal" it's just downright confusing.

This article cites the same info to a non-reliable 2018 'contributor' 'blog' by a non-expert, who in turn cites a 7 year old article from a site which mostly contains recipes, which in turn cites various random links for each state. The en.WP article also cites it to a 2012 book (which is contradictory; the article later indicates they weren't banned in one of the states until 2013!). Again, the info doesn't appear to have been updated in 7 years.

Frankly, I've already spent over an hour trying to clean this up, and I give up.
