Origin[edit]

I would like to see a history/origin section for getent. What I have found so far: It's not standardized in POSIX^[1]. It's available on Solaris, Linux, and the BSDs, but not macOS. On Linux it's implemented as part of glibc^[2]. The BSD man pages say that their implementations are based on the Solaris and Linux versions^[3]. --Jrdnch (talk) 16:09, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
