Speedy delete

I'd say {{db-band}} is a bit rushed for a band that is covered by major retailers. That statement is hardly encyclopedia-worthy, but the fact that Girugamesh is popular enough to appear in a con ad and spawn a trend might warrant a mention in a Pop Culture Appearances section. -moritheil^Talk 06:10, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

The "Yo Dawg" meme has a section in Xzbit's article. Rick Roll and Chocolate Rain has it's OWN article (which were 4chan memes). I still think it deserves a mention. A lot of memes are mentioned in articles whether or not it spread through MTV, YouTube, Facebook, etc. If one wants to know what it's all about, they would have this article to look at the small mention about it being a meme, how it originated, etc. Indianparttime2 (talk) 07:39, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

It's not about finding loopholes, it's about whether it has the proper notability to be included in the article. I don't personally care whether this reference gets added or not, however, I'd like to add that I've known about the meme for a fair bit of time now, and only just realised it was about the band. I told several people today who I knew knew of the meme, and they were also surprised. The meme is by far more popular than the band. The meme is noticeable with people not knowing what it is referring to "GIRUGAMESH".

To say that people who don't know the band, and know the internet meme constitutes a greater notability is really bogus! There are, as one might rationally guess, a large number of people who know Girugamesh and don't know the meme, and the impact which a band has on music, business and culture is something much more measurable, durable and notable than that of a small picture and various captions which are sparingly found on a cult website. --Jacob ^Talk 00:39, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

I'd never heard of the band until the made me look it up - and somehow, I have an inkling that it's the same for most people outside the JRock subculture, especially considering it came out of an imageboard that's culturally Japanese by origin. Hanii (talk) 12:54, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Similarly, many people who are in the JRock "subculture" did not know of the 4chan subculture at that time, and many of them became familiar with the site. As shocking as it may be, a majority of people don't actually know what 4chan is. That said, this "meme" was very short lived and from what I understand, not wholly accepted (a "forced meme" if you will) and while 4chan is a notable topic, and memes are a notable topic, this meme has not punctured the barrier between counterculture and mainstream trend. This, here, is what generally constitutes notability (that is, when press and outsiders begin researching and writing or spreading the information), and while Rickrolling and Lolcats may have plenty of sources on the internet pointing out their popularity, this captioned photo, posted a handful of times within a popular imageboard, is not even a fraction of the notability of a band who has successfully broken into the Japanese music scene, performed metal festivals in other continents, and gained attention in both American and European press. --Jacob ^Talk 16:29, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

I reiterate: the fact that Girugamesh is popular enough to appear in an ad and spawn a trend might warrant a mention in a Pop Culture references section.
