The first words in the song are: Is it going is it going is it going is it going? I don't know what you're looking for. Does anyone know where they are from?

Playful Diss to Prince?[edit]

It has been rumoured that the lyrics to this song are not about Scott but rather towards Prince, the pop star. Prince did in fact state at an awards show that "Sexy never left." So in his lyrics, he repeats, "If sexy never left, then why's everybody on my shi it it?" Everyone knows that Prince is very soft spoken and often asked to "speak up" and also he's rather of short stature, so when JT says he's, "Sitting up top and its hard to hear from way up here." it is believed he refers to Prince's shortness, which would match the semi-diss JT did at the Grammy's when accepting for Prince.

Justin Timberlake
Could you speak up and stop the mumbling
I don't think you're getting clear.
Sitting on the top it's hard to hear you from way up here.
I saw you tryin to act cute on tv just let me clear the air.
We missed you on the charts last week
Damn that's right, you wasn't there.
If sexy never left, then why's everybody on my shi-it-it?
Don't hate on me just because you didn't come up with it.
So if you see us in the club go on and walk the other way
Cuz our run will never be over; not at least until we say.

Lines 1 through 6 are also believed to be poitned towards Janet Jackson (mumbles in songs, tv appearance on Oprah where she spoke about the Super Bowl Incident, and bad chart performances).

Utada?[edit]

I thought the lyric in which in mentions he's worked with a star from japan or something is talking about Utada Hikaru, in which he co-produced and wrote two of her English songs from the album Exodus --Artistthatneverwas

Ja Rule?[edit]

Somebody erased the bit about Ja Rule. Isn't he on the remix? I have the song, but guess maybe it isn't an official remix. 69.148.177.179 23:30, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you're the one that added it last week (or maybe 2 weeks ago), then I'm the one that removed it.This is not official, it's just Ja Rule rapping on the instrumental version, added to the original version. A remix of "Give It To Me" did surface earlier today though, it's called "Laff At Em (Give It To You)", it features Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z. It's currently on Sebastian's myspace.--NeptunianDroid 23:51, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clearly...[edit]

Could you speak up and stop the mumbling I don't think you're getting clear. Sitting on the top it's hard to hear you from way up here. I saw you tryin to act cute on tv just let me clear the air. We missed you on the charts last week Damn that's right, you wasn't there.

- This verse is clearly about Janet. "Just let me clear the air" is a direct quote of Janet Jackson's Oprah interview (2007).

If sexy never left, then why's everybody on my shi-it-it? Don't hate on me just because you didn't come up with it. So if you see us in the club go on and walk the other way Cuz our run will never be over; not at least until we say.

- This part is about Prince.

Amnesty International[edit]

Nelly Furtado's lyric is not a diss toward Amnesty International. The correct lyric is:

Sampling?[edit]

A number of YouTube videos have surfaced claiming Timbaland sampled a song called "Alone in Tokyo" (or Kyoto) by Air. I think it's kind of rough but it could be. Actually it sounds like he may have sampled the rhythm and sneaker squeak riff toward the end of the original Nike Basketball Freestyle (see http://youtube.com/watch?v=0kSmis2g3SI starting at 0:40), but this is clearly OR on my part Cowbert (talk) 01:42, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nelly does not call Fergie ridiculous[edit]

In states in this article that Nelly Furtado's verse is related to singer Fergie. This theory is backed up by saying that Nelly Fertado calls Fergie's style "ridiculous". I have no knowledge of a feud between the two singers and am therefor unable to comment on that. However, the information used to back up that claim is incorrect. It is clear by the lyrics of the song that Nelly is not calling anyone's style "ridiculous" but her own. The lyrics are as follows: "I love my ass and my abs in the video for promiscuous. My style is ridiculous...". The word ridiculous in this context has a positive meaning which is backed up by the previous line. Also, throughout Nelly's verse she speaks of herself in a way that is positive and speaks only of another person once when she sings: "I seen you try to switch it up but girl you ain't got dough..." It is impossible to indicate who this line is directed to and nothing in the rest of the verse or song suggest that it is directed to Fergie. I therefor believe that this claim be removed from the page unless further proof is stated to back up it's accuracy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.235.22.165 (talk) 21:45, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
