Ludlow[edit]

Jon Rob added a comment to say that it was filmed around Ludlow as well as Much Wenlock. It wasn't really. Ludlow castle appears in the background of the point-to-point scenes but they are filmed at Eyton. Ludlow castle is miles away so it must be a clever fake, probably a hanging miniature, added to give the scene a dramatic background. Francis Kilvert[edit]

Kilvert's Diaries were not published or circulated until the 1930s. Therefore a novel published in 1917 cannot have been based on them.

Why are we using a Spanish-language poster for the article?[edit]

Go on then. I've given up trying to put images on Wikipedia. I did so for a load of films, taking care to follow all the rules. But then they changed the rules. So I made sure that all the images I had uploaded complied with the new rules - and they changed the rules again. I gave up -- SteveCrook (talk) 09:08, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have replaced the modern DVD cover with a contemporaneous English theatrical release poster, which was not available at the time I originally uploaded the Spanish poster. I assume that this will suffice for all parties. Beyond My Ken (talk) 04:23, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Selznick's cut[edit]

At time of posting the article states: "Selznick cut the film's length by 28 minutes"; it's unreferenced. A biography of Rouben Mamoulian, the new director for the additional scenes, has the cut at 35 minutes.^[1] I know that some page watchers are very knowledgeable about The Archers' productions, so I'm leaving this here for a few days for comment before making the alteration.

Powell claimed that Selznick had cut even more in his autobiography/ies. It was only about 28-35 minutes that were cut but the cuts & changes are very bitty, with bits cut or changed all over the place so it's very difficult to measure the total cut. He also added some bits so it's not just a matter of comparing the running times of the original (British) version and the cut/edited US version. It's also not helped by both versions being released under the titles 'Gone to Earth' and 'The Wild Heart'. -- SteveCrook (talk) 19:42, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Second thoughts: The authoritative British Film Institute has the original release at 111 minutes;^[1] the equally authoritative American Film Institute has the Mamoulian version at 81–82 minutes,^[2] close enough to the article. I'll leave it as it is, with thanks for other editors' patience.
