The result of the move request was: no move for now. Gori Lake → Ghouri Lake — Both of them meaning the same lake, the name Ghouri is the same as the name people of the region are calling the lake however the information here in this page are more comprehensive. Microinjection (talk) 01:34, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Title[edit]

I think the Qouri Lake represent the place name better. as it is more closer to the local pronunciation.--F4fluids (talk) 04:19, 10 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That may well be, but that is not the naming standard for articles on Wikipedia. See Wikipedia:Article titles#Foreign names and anglicization, Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names)#General guidelines and Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English). However alternate names are permitted to be included in the article. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section#Alternative names and Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names)#Alternative names. In this case the name in Azeri and the name in Persian (Farsi) may be included if they are attested. Names which do not occur in the literature are not appropriate and would constitute original research. For example the article on Lake Urmia once started out with a list of alternate names:

Lake Urmia (Persian: دریاچه ارومیه, Daryāche-ye Orūmiye Azerbaijani: Urmu gölü, ﺍﻭﺭﻣﻮ ﮔﺆﻟﻮ, Kurdish Wermy, Armenian: Կապուտան ծով, Kaputan ts'ov, ancient name: Lake Matiene)

However, the guideline at Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names)#Separate section usage states Alternatively, if there are more than two alternative names, these names can be moved to and explained in a "Names" or "Etymology" section; it is recommended that this be done if there are at least three alternate names, or there is something notable about the names themselves. Thus the lead in the Lake Urmia article was shorted and the alternate names placed in a "names" subsection. If there are not too many alternate names for Gori Lake, they may be added in the lead, otherwise they belong in their own section. --Bejnar (talk) 20:46, 17 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
