FAMILY TREE[edit]

I think having a family tree would be great. It would be a great reference so that anyone can figure out who is who's brother, cousin, uncle, nephew twice removed, etc. For content, check out http://www.gracieacademy.com/familytree.asp as well as http://www.gracieacademy.com/media_videos.asp?aid=50, from about 0:10 to 0:45. I don't know how this should/would be formatted. Any ideas? Gonzomalan (talk)

You can use the Genealogy template from wikipedia, Ahnentafel. It seems easy to use, and it has a good visual appeal. Where's Hélio?[edit]

I inserted a very short mention of Hélio in the Carlos Gracie section, but he definitely merits his own section. An appropriate bio could easily be adapted from his actual article, but I ran out of steam; my copy-edits end at Carlos Gracie. Why is this so biased tword Helio Gracie? It has no mention of his brothers who also created their own schools and taught their own brands of JujJutsu. -O.B

Maeda[edit]

Obviously Mitsuyo Maeda is important to mention, but the article at times seems to be more about him than about the Gracies. I tried to condense and edit out some Maeda stuff. I also changed all the "Koma"s to "Maeda"s, since "Koma" was a nickname.--Miss Dark 01:18, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Descendants of George Gracie[edit]

The great Gracie family are decendents of George Gracie an immigrant from Scotland. George Gracie had the son Pedro who in turn had the son Gastão. The question is, who was George Gracie's wife? and is there a photo of George Gracie? or his son Pedro Gracie? or Pedro's son Gastão Gracie? --

I don't think that they had cameras in the early 19th century.

Submissions[edit]

Is there any sort of unspoken or spoken rule/tradition among the Gracies that they never tap out under any circumstances? Rener Gracie[edit]

Because no one has created it yet. Actually, someone did, but it contained material that had been copied and pasted from another source. If you create a new Rener Gracie article, make sure to reword whatever is in the source(s) you use. SamEV (talk) 05:26, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

List of names getting excessive[edit]

This list should either contain articles or a reference - the overall reference does not include many of the names and it is hard to tell what is legit and what's just been tossed in. Easy answer is to call the list notable and trim out all those without articles but that might not be the best solution. Same issue with the template which is meant to be an aid to navigation rather than definitive and should contain only names with articles.Peter Rehse (talk) 16:20, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification of difference between the different lineages of the Gracie family[edit]

So the Helio, Rener, Ryron "branch" of the family claims to be the primary lineage and follows different conventions than many other parts of the family. Additionally, they claim to be the only "true Gracie Jiu Jitsu". It is also worth discussing some of the controversies between the Primary branch of the Gracie family and the other branches, as well as the attempted copyright of "Gracie Jiu Jitsu".
