Improvement needed[edit]

This is very close to "start" class - come on you Wickla Wikis! (Sarah777 21:38, 12 July 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Grangecon is an urban settlement on a small scale, the statement that urban type development will ruin the village is a loaded statement. I understand what you mean, but i think its important to differentiate between indiscriminate blanketing of the landscape with housing, and sensitive urban interventions. Interventions are needed as the village deteriorates, in the form of maintenance, and for consolidation of population in the long term. If absolutely no development is allowed, then the village will surely stagnate, as young people are forced to move away to find the facilities and houses in which to live. Agree with you entirely; the remarks about Grangecon and developers were inserted by another (anonymous) contributor - I diluted the pov but tried to leave the concerns expressed in a slightly less floury format. (Sarah777 21:35, 21 February 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Agreed but developement must be carefully controlled in order to avoid large suburban type housing estates around a rural village as has happened in most other villages within the Dublin commuter belt. Organic growth is essential for the future of the village. The type of new development is also important as the, essentially 19th century, village could otherwise be overwhelmed by inappropriately sized, sited, and designed structures.

References[edit]

The refs here are not great and rely a lot on one local and a few commercial websites. Anyone ever publish a "History of Grangecon" or "Memories of the Hall" or something? Sarah777 (talk) 20:26, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
