Bibliography[edit]

I have commenced a tidy-up of the Bibliography section using cite templates. Capitalization and punctuation follow standard cataloguing rules in AACR2 and RDA, as much as Wikipedia templates allow it. ISBNs and other persistent identifiers, where available, are commented out, but still available for reference. This is a work in progress; feel free to continue. LGBT?[edit]

Why is this article categorised as relevant to LGBT? There's no mention of Perry's sexuality, and 'T' doesn't stand for transvestite. I'll remove the project listing unless there's a valid reason for it. Thanks. Pikemaster (talk) 16:48, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That is a question best asked at the Wikiproject (WT:LGBT). As far as I can tell, any project is free to regard an article as within its purview, based on any criteria the project’s participants like. It may well be that cross-dressing is seen as worth umbrella-ing under LGBT studies—it certainly doesn’t seem irrelevant—or perhaps there are other facts of Perry’s life that make him worth keeping an eye on. — HTGS (talk) 11:22, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I've gone to the project page to elicit further views. Pikemaster (talk) 10:37, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that this article may be tangentially related to WP:LGBT, but I wouldn't oppose the project removal as the subject does not identify as LGBT. GnocchiFan (talk) 10:40, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would consider gender non-conformity broadly to be within scope of WP:LGBT; as Perry's gender nonconformity is part of both his artwork and his public persona, I don't think it's unreasonable to include him within the project's scope. But I don't feel so strongly about it that I would oppose removal if nobody agrees. Caeciliusinhorto-public (talk) 11:36, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the comments. It seems there's no consensus to remove the project categorisation, and I take the point about the gender non-conformity aspect. Pikemaster (talk) 13:03, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I just want to reiterate for all: whether a page is tagged as “of interest to” some Wikiproject is not a concern to editors who are not members/participants in that Wikiproject. Wikiprojects are just groups of editors who have some agreed area of interest that is worth coordinating around (Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Guide: A WikiProject is fundamentally a social construct). One does not need to be a member of the Wikiproject to be personally interested in LGBT topics (or East Anglia topics, etc.), but many people find that they help coordinate and discuss related topics.
The template tag at the top of this page is therefore not a category link, nor is it a (direct) statement about the subject of the article. It is a statement that this group of editors see it as worth monitoring within their field of interest. It should have (in this case) been placed there by a member of that Wikiproject, and it functions to (a) ensure that editors here know that the article has patrons of one or some Wikiprojects, and (b) to help sort articles of interest for that project (see the project’s showcase, for example). (See WP:PROJSCOPE)
If you are not a member of WP:LGBT, you really should not be concerned with whether that project is interested in this article. Though it might be worth checking that the project knows it has been tagged as such and that they are happy with that. — HTGS (talk) 22:43, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
