Originally, the URL identified in this article as the "Great Alaska Shootout home page" was shootout.net. While this has a much easier-to-remember URL, that site seems to have been set up solely for the 2006 tournament. As of August 24, 2007, there are no updates related to the 2007 tournament. From what I can tell, the shootout-related site on goseawolves.com seems to be "official", or at least is regularly updated with tournament news and information.

Women's tournament bogosity[edit]

More WP:SYNTH or merely making things up out of thin air again. I'm looking at the April 1980 issue of the University of Alaska newsletter Now in the North. Iowa winning the first women's tournament and Cindy Haugejorde winning MVP did occur, but not in conjunction with the Shootout. "When it was all over, the Hawkeyes of Iowa finished on top but just looking at the final score of the championship game doesn't tell the story of the first-ever Alaska Northern Lights Invitational Women's Basketball Tournament. The University of Alaska, Anchorage hosted the March 14–15 tournament. Along with UAA and Iowa, the universities of Wyoming and Nevada-Reno battled for the Northern Lights crown." March 14 and 15 doesn't sound like Thanksgiving weekend to me. The rest of the story goes on to describe the tournament games themselves. However, there's a brief mention of the fact that they received seed money from the Alaska Legislature, possibly at the instigation of Arliss Sturgulewski, at the time the member of the Alaska Senate representing the campus. The story also shows that the tournament was held at the Sports Center on campus, which someone felt was independently notable only this month for reasons having to do with mere announcements of future ice hockey games that they current lack the capacity to host, in spite of the fact that the venue has been home to significant community events for decades.
