This is bullshit[edit]

Why is the default entry for Griffon a fuckin dog breed? What is this insanity? Since when are mythological beasts with leonine bodies and eagle heads / wings defined as "dogs"? For that matter, can't people tell the difference between a Griffin, a Griffon and a Hippogriff?

(1)People might be able to tell the difference between a griffin, a griffon and a hippogriff, but they may lack the extensive vocabulary that some possess, or they may be spelling impaired. --Bejnar (talk) 00:22, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
(2)@87.81.202.196: What do you consider to be the primary topic for "griffon"? Take a look at Griffon (disambiguation) and Gryphon (disambiguation). --Bejnar (talk) 00:22, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 18 October 2019[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Moved to "Griffon (dog type)"; there is consensus to move as this article is not the primary topic. "Griffon (dog type)" seems the best option as "griffon" is neither a breed nor an individual dog. (non-admin closure) Cwmhiraeth (talk) 12:29, 26 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

– There seems to be WP:NOPRIMARY between this and everything at Griffon (disambiguation). Or possibly, griffin is the primary topic. Either way, this does not seem like the primary topic, though I am not sure whether Griffon (disambiguation) should be moved here. ZXCVBNM (TALK) 19:41, 18 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Move to Griffon (dog) and move dab page to base name. (dog) seems to be a more commonly used disambiguator in Category:Dog types and (dog type) is IMO a bit awkward. Pageview stats. Agree that the dog type is not primary. The main competitor is probably Griffin, but the Rolls Royce, vulture, tank, and roller coaster all come close in terms of page views (though they're mostly partial title matches to varying degrees). • I do not agree with (dog) as a disambiguation. Such a disambiguation would be used for singular dogs, e.g. Rover (dog). Not types or varieties of dogs.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 15:10, 19 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • There is no consensus or status quo. It's never actually been discussed before whether they should be at (dog). But if enough people want it to go to (dog), then I'll stop arguing about it and open a mass RM once this is over.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 16:02, 19 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support a move per WP:NOPRIMARY with no opinion on the target. The dog type gets 2,566 views but Griffon (roller coaster) gets nearly as many (2,103), Griffon vulture gets 5,866, Rolls-Royce Griffon gets 5,735, VBMR Griffon gets 2,187 and Griffin gets 30,418 which could be primary by PT#2 if any if its called "Griffon" often enough but the DAB at the base name probably make most sense. • Support, no primary topic. (A mass nomination of articles "Foo (dog)" by @Zxcvbnm: is a good idea: most articles I have seen of the type "Foo (horse)" are about an individual horse.) Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 10:35, 20 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom (since it's a type of dogs — a collection of breeds and not a breed itself – "dog type" works). No primary topic; move disambiguation page to basename. (Also, neutral or weak oppose on "Griffon (dog)"; I'd support a mass RM of "BREED (dog)" articles by Zxcvbnm.) Paintspot Infez (talk) 13:44, 21 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move to Griffon (dog). Common disambiguator for dog breeds. Not the primary topic for the name. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:51, 23 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
