This is bullshit[edit]

Why is the default entry for Griffon a fuckin dog breed? What is this insanity? Since when are mythological beasts with leonine bodies and eagle heads / wings defined as "dogs"? For that matter, can't people tell the difference between a Griffin, a Griffon and a Hippogriff?

Move to Griffon (dog) and move dab page to base name. (dog) seems to be a more commonly used disambiguator in Category:Dog types and (dog type) is IMO a bit awkward. Pageview stats. Agree that the dog type is not primary. The main competitor is probably Griffin, but the Rolls Royce, vulture, tank, and roller coaster all come close in terms of page views (though they're mostly partial title matches to varying degrees). Looking at the data there seems to be at least a de facto consensus around (dog) as a disambiguator for dog breeds or broader classifications, e.g. Pomeranian (dog), Chihuahua (dog), Boxer (dog), Feist (dog). There's only one article that uses (dog type): Dogo (dog type). And two using (dog breed): Pointer (dog breed), Laika (dog breed) (probably because in these two cases "(dog)" alone would be ambiguous). I think for now we should be WP:CONSISTENT with the status quo. If you think (dog type) is a better disambiguator for all these articles, I would suggest opening a separate mass RM to discuss the issue. Colin M (talk) 15:30, 19 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Support a move per WP:NOPRIMARY with no opinion on the target. The dog type gets 2,566 views but Griffon (roller coaster) gets nearly as many (2,103), Griffon vulture gets 5,866, Rolls-Royce Griffon gets 5,735, VBMR Griffon gets 2,187 and Griffin gets 30,418 which could be primary by PT#2 if any if its called "Griffon" often enough but the DAB at the base name probably make most sense.
