The Agriculturists[edit]

User:Piledhigheranddeeper added an embedded comment to the article. I've taken the liberty of removing it from the article and putting it here instead for easier discussion. The comment was:

the capitalization implies that this was the name of an organization, and not simply a catch-all term for local farmers; is that the case?

The reference (Western Australian Journal) refers to the Agricultural Society (presumably the Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia), so it's possible that "Agriculturists" refers to members of that society. However they did seem to capitalise quite a few nouns back then that we might not now. Mitch Ames (talk) 00:41, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think it is reasonable to assume that it does refer to Agricultural Society members - the previous refrence [1] is titled "SPECIAL MEETING OF THE MEMBERS OF THE AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY", while the Western Australian Journal reference refers to that same meeting as the "Meeting of the Agriculturists". - Evad37 [talk] 04:56, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Taking a closer look at the text of the Wiki-article, I have come to think that perhaps the "Agriculturalists" mentioned in the quoted article may indeed be the members of the Agricultural Society, as the quoted passage seems to be a response to their complaint of a week earlier, saying, in essence, "What is this complaint about? The work was stopped at your (or maybe even "our") request." The organization would be particularly likely to capitalize a word it uses to mean its own members. --Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 17:39, 24 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
