Kayne West, Gyöngyhajú lány and the copy right

As far as I know, Kayne West used the song illegally without asking OMEGA for permission. Did anybody know more about, I think this as famous as illegal use belongs to the history of the song and therefore belongs in this article. --Impulsiv. (talk) 13:01, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

Thank you. But today I'm not sure about anymore, if there really don't exist some legal possibilities of sampling songs without asking the legally holder of the rights (for commercial purposes like that: I really don't hope so!). As far as I can see - it was also without informing the public of there names? But if there are such legal possibilities: Was this sampling legally covered by this possibilities? ----Impulsiv. Sisters of Mercy "Sampling"

"The chorus melody of this song is sampled in the 1987 song "This Corrosion" by the English gothic-rock group The Sisters Of Mercy."

I think whoever wrote this has no clear idea what "sampling" means. This Corrosion has a the same melody in the refrain, thus the notes are the same. But it is by no means a sample. Will change that to "used". --Soulman (talk) 01:59, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

Lyrics

There are some interesting disputes over the lyrics of the song. Gábor Presser acknowledges that the role of the lyrics was crucial for the song's success in Hungary, but on the other hand, its excellence is not apparent at the first sight: "I didn't like a couple of lines at first, they were too childish, we corrected some of them, but the essence remained. And I wasn't right, that's how the song worked." (Presser könyve, Budapest, Helikon Kiadó, 2020).

Unfortunately, most of the lyrics publications on the internet are not correct, because of mishearing.

The lyrics from the booklet (2003 reedition) is as follows:

The most frequent typo is caused by a very difficult pronunciation of Hungarian "ért/reached" and its similarity to "él/lives". So instead of "from then the pearl-hair reached the deep sea a long time ago" you get "from then the pearl-hair has been living in the deep sea for a long time".

Sometimes even the words "mély tengerbe/in deep sea" is misheard for "édenkertben/in the Garden of Eden".

And finally, "igen, él egy gyöngyhajú lány" is somewhere mistaken for "igen, ébredj gyöngyhajú lány" (yes, there lives a pearl-haired girl -> yes, wake up, pearl-haired girl).

All analysis of the "Gyöngyhajú lány" lyrics that are generally available are affected (and get lost) by these mistakes.

Without them the lyrics says a quite straightforward story.

(1) A great catastrophe befell the mankind (the sun fell asleep). People suffered from darkness, but a pearl-haired girl from a different world pitied us, came to us, and restored the things (the earth and the sky became green and blue again; the dawn came).

(2) After completing her mission she went home, into her world, that is more described in the second verse. Blue mountains refer to great distance and difficult-to-cross borders. Flowers reveal beauty and a pleasant environment. Blue elephants telling tales represent a significantly different word, where the laws of nature do not apply. Here the light can peacefully sleep without any bad consequences to others. It considers the Pearl-haired Girl's hair a good and nice place to do so. And in return, the thing that makes the Pearl-haired Girl unique, her hair, the hallmark of her goodness, grows indefinitely, reaching even the less accessible places on the earth (reached the deep sea).

(3) But the true happiness wants to be shared with others. The Pearl-haired Girl directs her attention to people again.

To those who are lonely, or at least whose mind is not distracted by their interests of life (very alone), she sends a present (small star) together with instructions how, following pearls of her hair, they can reach her and her perfect world (snow-white pearls guide you). This is finally completed with her worm invitation (is calling me;  ...waits for me).

This story is definitely not a real course of events, but a fairytale or dream. However, both can reveal hidden truths if they are interpreted correctly. Probably this is the message of the only repeating sentence of the song (I dreamt or it is true perhaps). So the task of the listener is to find the best parallel to real life.

Pearls are a symbol of true values. Hair is a feature of women's beauty. A Pearl-haired Girl can be a woman whose beauty lies in following true values. Whose eyes and face shine with goodness.

Other possible parallels:

Saving the mankind ... saving the life or giving life to at least one person (who saves a life saves the world).

Go home (after completion of duties) ... passing into eternity, into the world of rest, peace and happiness.

Light in this world ... any spiritual being, including God.
