Beverly Center Location

In the Southern California section, the Beverly Center is listed as being in West Los Angeles. As West L.A. is traditionally defined as being the area west of La Cienega Blvd., listing the Beverly Center in West L.A. is accurate. Please do not change it back to Los Angeles. This article refers to the company as "H&M", and even states in the article that the company's name was officially changed to H&M. If no one can give good reason why it shouldn't be, I'm moving this article to H&M, and leaving the current page as a redirect. --DropDeadGorgias (talk) 15:27, May 24, 2005 (UTC)

This makes absolutely no sense: "£8,800 million USD." US Dollars implies not British pounds, yes? Also, don't "millions" in the thousands mean "billions"? +swaly 01:26, September 10, 2005 (UTC)

Unfair H&M Business Practices

I found this online at http://www.socialistworker.org/2004-1/483/483_11_LaborInBrief.shtml

It details the poor working conditions at the H&M Distribution Center, not to mention H&M's hostility toward the unionization of its employees. I was wondering if it would be appropriate to include this in the article? If this would be possible, how would could it be properly integrated in the current edition of this article?

I feel that people have a right to know about the more 'darker' aspects of this company and while I in no way want to jeopardize the integrity and objectivity of this article, I do feel that this information, and indeed any information, no matter how good or bad it may reflect on the company, should be shown so that all who are interested may see a complete picture.

Kirobos

Critics about H&M are growing: respect of the store working people, of the production people, environment, ... In the opposite way, I heard positive elements about H&M behaviour towards environment. These criticism are not a minor issue and should be described in the article. Anyone willing to provide elements on these topics is welcome to help me. Lvr 15:25, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
By all means put in a section, but you must have sources--the socialist Worker is acceptable as one but there ought to be one from a more mainstream source as well, and there must also be an attempt to tell the management's side of the story. DGG (talk) 06:45, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Inexpensive?

I'm sure the part about H&M being inexpensive is written from a Swedish point of view, but it's a bit more expensive and has higher status abroad, at least in the UK. EditorInTheRye 13:41, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

H&M is really inexpensive. It is one of their base commercial statement ! Inexpensive and fashionable. Lvr 15:19, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
I agree, it's inexpensive in Belgium too - at least compared to other high street chains. Ninja neko 14:26, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
I think it's hard to find a objective reference of H&M being inexpensive. I would prefer another phrase like: 'targetted at the low end of the clothing market'. It they succeed in that is not up to this page to conclude. Probably most readers will conclude they succeeded because of their commercial success.

H&M in North America

This seems a bit over-detailed: do we really need quite so many of the North American stores to be mentioned? We don't mention every single European store. I can't see why the fact that there may well be an H&M in Pittsburgh at some unspecified date in the future is notable. 86.136.252.231 23:29, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Right! has just been trimmed. The other sections need trimming too. Comparison with other retailers show that individual stores are rarely mentioned. DGG (talk) 06:43, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Agree a bit detailed, but I think the point is to catalog their recent, and on-going expansion into the US. From a business standpoint, it's interesting to understand the rate, path/location of their plans.69.81.55.167 02:07, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

EUROPE

where the hell is europe in this article.

america america america,,,,, everyone loves america. blah. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jak3m (talkcontribs) 20:44, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

It clearly says that the company is Swedish, with flag and all. --64.131.187.129 04:15, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Why then is Europe after North America in the list - this is very American biased considering the stores have been in Europe for 40 years compared to the last 7 years in N.America. And as Europe has more stores & %50 bigger population surely Europe should top the list in this context. Do we really need to know about Westfield Topanga? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.195.77.146 (talk) 10:43, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

No H&M Australia

There is no H&M in Australia. This article implies there is. The Kylie Minogue section needs to be put into Collaborations. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.210.30.169 (talk) 07:32, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

americentric bias

I've heavily edited the US section. it was twice the length of the rest of the article. It is unnecessary and distracting for an encyclopaedia entry to list the location, address and opening date of every store in the united States. Imagine if this were attempted for every H&M store worldwide, or even just in Europe. Individual listings of stores with details can be found on the H&M Website. --Brideshead (talk) 18:24, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

I've now trimmed all the sections relating to store locations and reorganised the section into a cohesive statement on H&M worldwide. There is absolutely no reason for a section by section listing in an entry of this kind. --Brideshead (talk) 18:32, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

This happens constantly, this article is on my watchlist, and you can see the US-centrism creep in slowly through addition of notes of random stores opening until someone trims it down and the cycle repeats itself. Something drastic needs to be done here... EditorInTheRye (talk) 00:32, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

Employee count

The intro states that there are 73,000 employees worldwide of H&M, but the Infobox states 53,430. Which is correct? 99.237.200.255 (talk) 21:21, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

It's a bit of a cheat but H&M class their East Kilbride, Braehead and Silverburn branches as "Glasgow" in their online store locator. There are also two distinct stores in the Buchanan Galleries and one in The Forge. Gr1st (talk) 15:14, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
The map also show one store in Estonia with an upcoming store in Lithuania, while in reality there are none in either of the states, but a single store is in Riga, Latvia, and another one is about to be opened on September 29. 80.233.241.114 (talk) 17:30, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

More bias.

There's not just American bias. This company is known as H&M in Britain and the US, but in (e.g.) Scandinavia and Germany it's still known as Hennes & Mauritz or just "Hennes". --JO 24 (talk) 17:19, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

This info is outdated as H&M is actually called "H and M" in Germany and Scandinavia, too. --SaraFinale (talk) 14:14, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Croatia second non-EU European country?

The article states that "Croatia is the second European country that isn't in The European Union where H&M opened their store" and that the first croatian H&M store opened in 2011. A few lines down it says that they opened in Russia in 2009 and a few lines above it says that the first norwegian store opened in 1964.

There is obviously some discrepancy here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.144.43.169 (talk) 20:53, 25 February 2013 (UTC)

Controversy Section Is Irrelevant

I'm not sure that one case of one store having one employee being sued by one customer counts as a controversy relevant to all the stores. If the case was more in the media, or if it were more widespread, then perhaps it would be relevant, but right now I'm of the opinion that if this needs to be on Wikipedia at all, it belongs in the biographical article of the H&M employee or the victim. Having the controversy on the company page inaccurately suggests that this is a problem with the company as a whole. I will remove it (and copy it here to preserve it) in one week if nobody objects, and of course if you agree with me, then please say so. --64.131.187.129 04:10, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

i absolutely agree. it is totally irrelevant. if such a "controversy" section were included on a larger company's entry (walmart for instance) the listing would include pages upon pages of isolated incidents. it may be an unfortunate incident, but it is completely isolated unless someone can provide similar problems occurring in other stores. as this is not a systemic problem, or a controversy regarding the company itself, i am removing the entire section. it is not appropriate to list the misdeeds of a single employee or small group of employees within a single store in a company of >60,000 employees. Elysianfields (talk) 00:07, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
re-removed the controversy section. see above for explanation. --Elysianfields (talk) 06:45, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
The Controversies (plural) section has since been re-added. It presently contains four items in chronological order. Further development might require a consultation with the Manual of Style for subheadings that would indicate the nature of the controversies. -- Deborahjay (talk) 12:08, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

List creep cleanup

I've done the unfathomable by trimming the list of "in [year], a store opened in [my hometown, which is automatically notable because I live in it], making it the [remarkable statistic]th in the world", replacing it with what is essentially the same information from the list of numbers and flags further down. I don't know much about H&M other than I know I like their socks, so if somebody wants to plumb the revision history for the major points that should have been saved (I tried my best), be my guest.

I used the Apple store article as a model for how the locations section should look, in case anyone wondered. I figured it'd be a store that people would be equally (if not more) inclined to get excited about and add it to the article when it opens in their hometown. EditorInTheRye (talk) 10:51, 21 June 2015 (UTC)

In the store counter list we should be referencing this section of their corporate website: http://about.hm.com/en/About/facts-about-hm/fashion-for-all/sales-markets/hm-worldwide.html It lists the official figures with an official date. The Wikipedia page shouldn't be updated any more than this site and the official list is including all stores in the H&M unbrella, not just those with an H&M sign. 19:33, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

Orphaned references in H&M

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of H&M's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

List of stores by country

There have been ongoing edits to the list of H&M stores by country which I cannot verify. The standing citation is this but that page no longer exists. The only two pages I can find are this of total store count by "brand" and this total for all H&M group stores by market (country). The problem is that the numbers from the second one, the only comparable table I could find, do not always match the numbers being inserted. Also it is not clear whether our list is supposed to refer strictly to H&M stores or all H&M brands - the second table from H&M is about all H&M brands. At any rate, I cannot determine where people are getting their updated numbers for this (which do not always match the source). This is but one example of many similar edits, changing Belgium from 79 to 80 when the source says 90. —DIYeditor (talk) 20:25, 12 February 2017 (UTC)
