Reliability of source[edit]

I've tagged the "Sailors pocket handout" reference as [unreliable source?], because I do not believe that a pamphlet given to a warship's greens is a reliable, published source for the purposes of Wikipedia policies and guidelines. Further comment is appreciated. -- saberwyn 12:40, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RNZN Service: Sources[edit]

The Australian service section has over time been properly referenced, though it remains a bit sparse. The RNZN section contains no especially extraordinary claims but is almost entirely unsourced. There are surely some sources somewhere for the 24 years this vessel spent in the NZ Navy, but basic searches have not revealed them. Anyone have anything useful to hand in referencing this section of the page? Euryalus (talk) 05:20, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The lack of content regarding HMNZS Kiama vs HMAS Kiama probably relates to the peacetime vs wartime careers of the ship. I am removing the uncited content from the article and listing it here. Five years is long enough to find something, and nothing has been. Most of the content is not just " notespecially extraordinary", but skirts closer to "trivial". When/if reliable sources are found for the content, it can be moved back into the article. -- saberwyn 09:29, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Two additional messdecks were installed aft; one to hold crew displaced by the modifications, the other to accommodate 30 trainees.
  • Kiama was the last wooden-decked ship in the RNZN, and the last RNZN ship to use hammocks.
  • New Zealand singer Allison Durbin was adopted as the ship's mascot, with a large signed photograph of Allison hung in the ship's forward mess deck.
  • In late 1967, Kiama sailed to Australia to visit her namesake town, returning to New Zealand in early 1968.
