The massive rundown of Labs[edit]

In the last few years, Labs has seen what can only be described as a massive rundown in numbers. The article as it stands is incomplete and misleading to not mention this. Sourcing is of course a requirement, but the current article is far too rosy.

There have also been significant areas where Labs has given up on research in that field. Semantic Web (and see http://www.hpl.hp.com/semweb/) is just one. Andy Dingley (talk) 11:20, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's worse than that. This looks like a corporate portal page for HP Labs. An organization that is but a sad shadow of its former self. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Squ1rr3l (talkcontribs) 02:36, 2 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

new article for "The Machine"[edit]

I think "The Machine" (linking here) deserves its own article. Anybody interested? http://www.technologyreview.com/featuredstory/536786/machine-dreams/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by AnisotropicChild (talkcontribs) 07:34, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Change Article Title[edit]

Should the article title now be changed to Hewlett Packard Labs since the company split into HP Inc and Hewlett Packard Enterprise with the Labs division falling under HPE? HP Labs is still used by many unofficially but the formal name is now Hewlett Packard Labs. --Jasenlee (talk) 20:33, 1 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Keep it as HP Labs, per WP:COMMONNAME, certainly until the dust settles. Andy Dingley (talk) 21:16, 1 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It seems there will be two labs, one for each company. See http://www.labs.hpe.com/ and http://www.hpl.hp.com/. One will be named HP Labs the other Hewlett Packard Labs. This article should really be split into 2. --Svgalbertian (talk) 16:19, 2 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'd still keep this name, to cover the notable history of HP Labs. It's unproven (and broadly unlikely) that either of these new names will meet WP:N. Andy Dingley (talk) 16:26, 2 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I see that this story is being run by both "Labs" websites. http://h30507.www3.hp.com/t5/Behind-the-scenes-Labs/HP-Labs-celebrates-30-Years-of-innovation-in-Bristol/ba-p/6796945#.VjePFCtfNgC Andy Dingley (talk) 16:28, 2 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Split this article because HP Labs has split[edit]

HP Labs has split into two entities: HP Labs for HP Inc. and Hewlett Packard Labs for Hewlett Packard Enterprise. They have their own web pages at http://www.hpl.hp.com/ and http://www.labs.hpe.com/ . Jesse Viviano (talk) 22:11, 28 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I strongly agree that the article be split in two to reflect the two new labs organizations in the two new entities formed Nov. 1, 2015: HP Inc. and Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Right now the article title refers to the official name of the labs organization in HP Inc. "HP Labs," but the content is all about the organization of Hewlett Packard Labs, which is the official name of the labs organization in Hewlett Packard Enterprise. I have an edited version of the article that would correctly reflect the organization of HP Labs in HP Inc. Full disclosure: I manage the content for the website of HP Labs in HP Inc. This Page Needs To Be Split[edit]

I agree that since HP has been split into two companies this page needs to be revised. I would like to suggest because of disambiguation that the page is split into three pages: 1. HP Laboratories where the historical references can be retained, 2. HP Labs (current labs of HP Inc.) and 3. Hewlett Packard Labs (current labs of Hewlett Packard Enterprise).

Alternatively the page can just be split into HP Labs and Hewlett Packard Labs and the historical references could be added to sub sections on both — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ptulloch (talkcontribs) 02:25, 13 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with splitting and even the historical naming, however, why not make HP Laboratories and the historic references be a section/part of Hewlett-Packard which is an historic article about the company before the split (partially consolidating all pre-split content since it is unlikely to change significantly). 50.53.1.33 (talk) 00:15, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Agree I'll get on it now. BrandonXLF (t@lk) 16:13, 8 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
