Controversies regarding the Bi-racial Casting of Olanna[edit]

Some reliable news sources documented and criticized the bi-racial casting of the major protagonist Olanna....I am about to include a section as regards my above claim but I just want to know what my fellow Wikipedians feel before doing that. Thanks Darreg (talk) 08:20, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Go ahead and include the category if there's a lot to write on it (with reliable sources). If there's no much story on it, I feel you can just write that in the Cast Category (under Thandie Newton's name). Thanks--Jamie Tubers (talk) 15:33, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Conflicting Lagos Premiere Dates[edit]

The Nigerian premiere date says April 25th on the Wikipedia article, but reliable sources like 1 and 2 claim its April 12th. Can someone categorically confirm the actual date?Darreg (talk) 10:55, 28 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The current source state its the Lagos premiere, so I'm happy for it to be changed with the info above. Good find. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 12:16, 28 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • I will change it now, Punch seems to me a more reliable source.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 16:00, 28 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • On the official website here, it says 25th April. So, I'm changing it back.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 17:56, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Isn't that just the general release in Nigeria? Wasn't the date of the 12th the premiere before going into cinemas? Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 19:21, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Lugnuts: The punch reference states April 12, 2014. I don't know much about movie related articles on Wikipedia, but I know that for album releases, the earliest release date is taken into account. versace1608 (talk) 19:33, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That's what I was driving at - I suspect the official website is listing the general release for locals to go to their cinema, but it seems to have been screened at an earlier premiere. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 19:34, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Lugnuts: Since Jamie Tubers made the change, it's only right he reverts his changes. I hope he concurs with our statements. By the way, thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia. You have really done a lot on Wikipedia; your work cannot be overstated. versace1608 (talk) 19:41, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I start a lot of world cinema stubs, and it's nice to see them evolve like this one is doing. I'll raise the Nigerian date at the Film Project for more input. Cheers. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 19:44, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • You guys are right! I'm changing it back lol. I should've waited for you all before changing it back again.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 20:28, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Jamie Tubers: Thanks for reverting your edits. I think the punch reference should be added to the article. It would definitely shun all the skeptics out there. versace1608 (talk) 20:48, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't know....I'm indifferent, but I've noticed references are usually placed in the sections involved and not in the infobox.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 21:00, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There's nothing wrong with adding references to infoboxes. I think that it would be best to add the punch reference to the lead, since the current released template being used in the article isn't reference friendly. versace1608 (talk) 21:11, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Currently Banned in Nigeria?[edit]

The movie was due for theatrical release in Nigeria on 25th April 2014 but the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has placed a ban on it pending when certain scenes and dialogues are cut out of the film. 1, 2, 3. Darreg (talk) 12:08, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think you can add the information Darreg. I just hope an administrator don't come here and say WP:UNDUE. Versace1608 (Talk) 13:16, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • I Agree. The thing is this article needs some serious expansion. But i have other articles needing expansion on my todo list--Jamie Tubers (talk) 13:35, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Abi o...as I was doing some research on Alex Ekubo. I noticed that in many of his interviews he was always asked about his rumoured gay relationship with Uti Nwachukwu but if I should add something on it now it might cause wahala. but in this case I think it should not be added sha because of our conservative laws against gays and it would be kinda harmful to his career. Darreg (talk) 14:37, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Nice find, Darreg. It should be added, as long as it doesn't swamp the article. I recall a similar situation for the South Korean film Moebius (see the lead section). Thanks. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 13:52, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. before the end of the week there will be more press releases from government officials concerning it. I want to wait a while. Darreg (talk) 14:29, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's even one of the top stories on the entertainment section of the BBC site, which states "A film board spokesman told AFP there were "regulatory issues" with the film but that it wasn't "officially banned"." Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 19:17, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Reviews[edit]

I just stumbled upon this review written by a reviewer for the New York Daily News. I think that this should be added to the article under a critical reception section. Versace1608 (Talk)

  • I wonder why y'all just keep suggesting stuffs on talkpage. There are lots of reviews on the film out there, just add them already.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 20:30, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
^^^ This. Be bold. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 12:35, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Tubers Contributing anything to this article even annoys me more, its like the NFVCB have forgotten that they banned the film. It's sad that citizens of the country of the location of the film are not even allowed to watch it. Darreg (talk) 10:05, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Well it's sad that the filmmakers didn't get their acts together before releasing the film. They announced a release date without even getting a certification? Typical of how we like to do things. And it's even more sad that the writer of the original novel (who doesn't have any right over the film as she has sold the rights for the adaptation) is being given as much liberty to be determining what should or shouldn't be cut out from the film (Yea..she's the one insisting that the NFVCB's "Offensive" scenes shouldn't be cut out). It's their business anyway! I've seen the film and it's just some overhyped piece of ****. Reasons I'm not keen on this article so much - I didn't like it....but I hope someone gets to expand the article and I just get to format and cleanup :).--Jamie Tubers (talk) 20:05, 25 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
