"The house was later owned in the 17th century by John Tarleton, a family prominent in both shipping and civic affairs in and out of adjacent Liverpool where five Tarletons served as mayors between 1646-1765. John of Hallwood's gr.gr.gr-grandson was Banastre Tarleton (1754-1833) of American Revolutionary War notoriety, and John was also the grandfather of James Tarleton (c1746-1703) who founded the family in Maryland--a family from whom Barack Obama is directly descended."
