Okehampton[edit]

The Cambridge Dictionary entry for OKEHAMPTON Devon on page 450 contains an error: Ochementone 1086 should show OchEggENTONE as recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. Compare the hand written 'g' with others on the same page.[1] The name element Eg is Old English ēġ and is obviously a reference to the wedge of land enclosed between the tributary rivers of the River Okement.
