Re-write lead paragraphs[edit]

Recommendation: The opening paragraphs (often called the "lede") are too long and involve too much family heritage. The essential facts about Gill should be set forth as a concise overview. Most importantly, in this article, the importance is that he was a plant pathologist at UCR, noted for his work in certain pathogens. For more information on proper article structure, see WP:LEDE.
