Blanked section[edit]

I blanked the following

==Criticisms== Siddiqui courts controversy. Writing in Toronto Life in June 2001, Robert Fulford maintained that "Siddiqui makes the most strenuous effort to bathe Third World countries in a soft light. No matter how outrageous its actions, a non-Western government can usually count on him for a little understanding." HonestReporting Canada, a media watchdog group that monitors and reports on what it perceives as anti-Israel bias, accuses him of "one-sided criticism of Israel" in columns on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict [1].

Critics also charge that Siddiqui harbours anti-American bias, and that he is too quick to dismiss the threat of Islamic terrorism. Describing him as "the Toronto Star's resident Islamist," they accuse him of exploiting latent anti-Americanism in Canada to promote Islamist goals both there and abroad [2] [3].

Because all the citations fail WP:RS and the section itself give WP:UNDUE and violates WP:BLP. Thanks Taprobanus 21:35, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Removed content from "Criticisms"[edit]

I have just removed the following from "Criticisms":

Siddiqui is one of the journalists who published the Bogus Moshe Ya'alon quotation.[1]

Although I am not a fan of Mr. Siddiqui columns, I think it goes a bit too far listing this as a "criticism" for three reasons: (1) The article clearly demonstrates that lots of various news sources were reprinting the misquote, not just Haroon Siddiqui and the Toronto Star. You can't just single out Siddiqui. (2) In the article, Siddiqui carefully explains how the mistake happened - and it appears it was just that, a mistake. It seems more a problem with the overall industry than Siddiqui in particular. (3) Siddiqui didn't publish anything. The Toronto Star did. It had to get past the Star's editors. (And ultimately, it was The Toronto Star that was responsible for publishing the subsequent correction and apology.) Singularity42 (talk) 18:21, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Toronto Star's resident Islamist"[edit]

An anon keeps inserting criticism about Haroon Siddiqui, calling him, amongst other things, "Toronto Star's resident Islamist". The anon uses the following source: [4]

No where does this source call Siddiqui "Toronto Star's resident Islamist". Also, a google search of the term yields only a blog that uses that term.

So, per WP:BLP, I ask that anon to refrain from adding content for which there is no reliable source.VR talk 20:00, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

uncited critisism[edit]

Hi, I moved this criticism here, its uncited, please cite and replace, thanks. Off2riorob (talk) 21:15, 29 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism[edit]

Writing in Toronto Life in June 2001, Robert Fulford maintained that "Siddiqui makes the most strenuous effort to bathe Third World countries in a soft light. No matter how outrageous its actions, a non-Western government can usually count on him for a little understanding.

HonestReporting Canada, a media watchdog group that monitors and reports on what it perceives as anti-Israel bias, accuses him of "one-sided criticism of Israel" in columns on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Critics also charge that Siddiqui harbors anti-American bias and that he is quick to dismiss the threat of Islamic terrorism or that he seeks to excuse it. Describing him as "the Toronto Star's resident Islamist," they accuse him of exploiting latent anti-Americanism in Canada to promote Islamist goals both there and abroad among them the withdrawal of Canadian forces from Afghanistan, which Siddiqui has advocated. The National Post has editoralized that "Siddiqui seems... to be advocating the agenda of the Islamists." Siddiqui has also editorialized that journalistic freedom of speech should be subject to the edicts of Canada’s human rights commissions and has stated that "freedom of speech is not absolute and must be balanced the rights of religion and faith.
