Vandalism heads-up[edit]

I notice that several edits to this page [1] [2] [3] [4] have come from an IP that is used by a persistent vandal [5].

It's not the only IP that has vandalised this page [6] [7], if indeed it has. And none of these four edits are obvious vandalism, two of them seem constructive and the others may well be accurate. But neither do any of them cite sources.

While we assume good faith, in the circumstances it would be good to check the accuracy of the these edits. The most likely explanation, of course, is that this IP is used by several people (students or others) associated with the school in question, some of whom are vandals but others may not be. The IP appears to be located in Beijing, unsurprisingly [8] [9], and the vandalism started in 2008 [10] and has been occurring from time to time ever since [11].

Note to school masters (and students): If disruptive edits do come from the student body, the deduction of house points for the offenders would seem appropriate. I would assume that this school uses an honour system similar to my old school, so identifying any culprit(s) should not be difficult.

Note to all: It may also be that the school is a completely innocent victim in this. Some vandals are very clever. They may have no association with the school.

From our point of view, the important thing is to verify or in need revert the suspect edits listed above. That's all.

The first step is probably to contact the school to verify the information currently in the page, including the current house structure and Lyon house in particular, and the number of enrollments, is it 420, 680, or otherwise? And in any case, the article should state the date on which the number quoted was current, rather than just saying currently, and the infobox which still says 420 [12] should be consistent with the the lead which has been changed to 680.

The school website http://www.harrowbeijing.cn/ is offline until 8th April according to a notice there currently. Andrewa (talk) 02:57, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Houses[edit]

http://www.harrowbeijing.cn/SchoolLifeSchoolHouses.aspx is now up and reads in part:

  • Churchill (yellow) - named after Winston Churchill, British Prime Minister, Old Harrovian.
  • Curie (green) - named after Marie Curie, Nobel Prize winning chemist and physicist.
  • Ju Ching (red) - named after the philanthropist and mother of Daniel Chiu, founder of Harrow International School Beijing.
  • Kong Zi (blue) - named after Confucius (Kong Zi), Chinese philosopher.
  • Song Qing Ling (purple) - named after Madame Sun Yat-sen (Song Qing Ling) politician.
  • Lyon (orange) - named after John Lyon, founder of Harrow School in London.

Headmistress[edit]

Old campuses[edit]

@Cfls:

Hi! In regard to this edit, I will say that I had added the parts about the school making new campuses/leaving old campuses. IMO this info is crucial, as I want to list Harrow in various district-based school lists (for example, Tongzhou District). A casual editor who drives by and think some kind of mistake was made might suddenly remove the school from the list, thinking the info is erroneous, when it's not.

IMO these articles need to keep track of all current and former campuses, even if such info was from primary sources (it's still valuable info). Such info can be expressed in a neutral, non-promotional way (remove words like "state of the art", for example).

Also information on who the students are (as seen in Matthew Benjamin Farthing's statements) are encyclopedically good info for these schools, but again that can be expressed in a neutral, non-promotional way. I like to attribute statements to people so it's not in Wikipedia's voice, but clearly presented as that person's POV. WhisperToMe (talk) 01:44, 20 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
