DOB[edit]

@Struway2:: There was nobody named Harry Cecil Parr, Henry Cecil Parr or just Cecil Parr (if Harry was a nickname) born in Newcastle in 1913-1915. (Parr is surprisingly not a common last name in Northumberland, and there were only nine people born with this name in Newcastle from 1913 to 1915, seven of them female.) There is only one record of a Harry Cecil Parr or Henry Cecil Parr born in England during this time, and it just so happens he was born in Hexham, 20 miles from Newcastle, in 1918, which is consistent with his football career. The only other one with this name was Henry (Harry) Cecil Parr who born in Hertfordshire in 1895 and who died in London in 1940. Even if he was born under a different name and adopted by someone else, the only other Harry Cecil/Henry Cecil born in Newcastle was Harry Cecil Green in 1908. So the info that he was born in Newcastle in 1914 is dubious, and it also seems increasingly evident that whoever provided the original source did not do much fact checking. @Wikimandia: Except that the Harry Parr born in Hexham in 1918 was just that, a Harry Parr, not Harry/Henry Cecil. You mention adoption: adoptees don't necessarily keep their birth names. I don't know if you took advantage of Wikipedia's partnership with Findmypast a year or three back? one thing we were warned about was original research. The reliable sources noticeboard has various threads about such databases, which also warn against assuming that any particular record definitely applies to the person we want it to. Again, I'm not saying you're wrong. What I am saying is that you've shown nothing other than "there isn't any alternative" to connect Harry Parr born Hexham 1918 to this Harry Parr.

There may well be mistakes in the secondary sources that give Mr Parr's details as Harry Cecil Parr born Newcastle 1914. But we dont know whether they're mistakes in the full name, the surname, the name he was registered with that wasn't what his mother chose to call him, his birthplace, his birth year, or any combination. And it's original research as soon as we try to decide where the mistake is, without any alternative secondary source currently available to support our decision. Please feel free to take the matter to WP:RS/N if you think I'm being too cautious. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 17:30, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
