Errors/Mistakes

Can I put a section of the errors/mistakes in the first edition of the book? (Raasta123 00:27, 11 July 2007 (UTC))

Do you mean something along these lines? If so, I would vote 'no.' I don't think we should be concerned with typos and differences between British and American English. Faithlessthewonderboy 05:43, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Redirection

I'm unsure how it is done as I am fairly new to wikipedia but shouldn't searching for the phrase "Half-Blood Prince" redirect to the Severus Snape article? It's just a suggestion. Chris 19:13, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

I agree (sign your post so we can know who you are). The Half-Blood Prince should redirect to Snape's article. DorTheScripter 12:36, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure about this sentence...

The identity of the Half-Blood Prince character has no apparent bearing on the main plot of the series, some critics charge, and since Harry's main concern throughout this book is to solve the mystery of this character's true identity

Didn't this book's ending confirm that Snape was the Half-Blood prince?

Yes it did when harry was trying to curse snape and snape said that harry could not use snape's (the half-blood prince) own spells against him. Wiki235 15:02, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Here is another question... How is it that Harry was able to give Snape Ron's copy of the potions book. Shouldn't he have known by looking at it since it was marked. Mavrix79 21 Jul 2007

Length of plot paragraph

I've been put off reading the plot outline as there are no paragraphs. It makes it hard work to battle all that text in one go! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.13.138.78 (talk) 00:30, 22 February 2007 (UTC).

Looks like that has been taken care of. GeorgeLouis (talk) 03:05, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Vandalism

Someone had typed in "SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE!!!!!" in the first paragraph. I edited it and took it away. Ravenmirta 01:46, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Ravenmirta

Many inappropriate changes were made. I simply returned to the previous page. Es330td 02:57, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Text Changes

I changed part of the paragraph under Text Changes to:

The reason for the editing of the below text has not been explained on the author's webpage, but it clearly makes the nature of Dumbledore's offer to Draco in The Half-Blood Prince explicit.

I added mention that Dumbledore's offer occured in the Half-Blood Prince. Before, people who had not read the book may have assumed that the discussion had taken place in The Philosopher's Stone, since the paragraph started off by mentioning that book. Joel Howard 04:23, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

I would guess the reason for editing out the text is that it reads awkwardly. It could confuse some readers into thinking that the Order had actually killed Draco's mother. -Akwdb 07:28, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
IMO book 7 requires that Draco must be alive at the end to make Narcissa lie to Voldemort. It's debatable if JKR planned it so before writing the last book, but the story makes more sense without the added text in the US edition. 84.182.127.28 (talk) 00:13, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Snape, Dumbledore and Avada Kedavra

As also mentioned in the Avada Kedavra talk page: Surely the use of Avada Kedavra on Dumbledore by Snape is dubious because Dumbledore didn't just drop dead like all other victims.

Not sure what Rowling has said on this issue - she has said he is dead, but still the use of the Killing Curse is dubious.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.4.237.219 (talk) 20:37, 5 May 2007 (UTC).

Well, he did just drop dead, didn't he? The spell hit him, he died and fell from the tower, as he was leaning against a pillar, if I am remembering correctly.--Dark Green 21:11, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

It specifically said that he flew up into the air, was thrown backwards and then down.

Page Number

Allright. I have read and reread the first 200 pages, trying to find what page it is that Harry is notified that he is Quidditch captain and I can not find it. Can someon please tell me? Rembrant12 20:21, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

It was when they got their Hogwarts letters and book lists, then Harry got to know that he was made Quidditch captain. page 104 in bloomsbury edition. Painfoot 11:08, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Uh, am I correct in thinking that the phrase "heroin addiction" is not accurate in being one of the main causes that Cornelius Fudge to resign?

I am shy of fixing it myself.

-LOL

Should the Article talk about DumbledoreIsNotDead.com?

I remember there were many fans who believed that Dumbledore faked his death in this book and pointed to specific areas of the text that they believed were clues pointing towards this. The largest site for this was "DumbledoreIsNotDead.com", (moved to http://www.beyondhogwarts.com/harry-potter/topics/dumbledore.html"). It was pretty active until J.K. Rowling said that she wouldn't "pull a Gandalf" and bring him back to life. At any rate, I feel like this controversy as to whether or not Dumbledore was really dead is significant enough to put into the article. What do you all think? Thunderforge 04:15, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Its irrelevant as the 7th book confirms that he is indeed dead, I could go into more details but I dont want to spoil it for anyone 172.202.188.253 22:42, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Controversies

Why are the dedication and the movie release date in the controversies section? dr.alf 01:14, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

HP7 Spoilers

There was an image being displayed that seemed to be (real or fake) Book 7 spoilers. Editing of HP-related pages should probably be locked town to registered users, I think. --Wintersweet 22:55, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

I agree... won't there be a risk of libel if stolen etc. material is posted here? Although the book was released about 7 mins ago over here. Toon 23:07, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
Libel is written defamation. GeorgeLouis (talk) 03:09, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Aw damn!

I was reverting some vandalism [Or checking out past vandalism] when my eyes accidentally darted over the spoiler section... Damn it! Could someone check if the Plot synopsis is correct and not too detailed. Basic outlines only! ScarianTalk 03:32, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

The plot section must contain all significant detail. This is not a fan site. --Tony Sidaway 22:54, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
Exactly, it's not a fansite, but an encyclopedia. As per WP:NOT#Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information, plot summaries shouldn't be too detailed, and should not be the central point of an encyclopedic article about a work of fiction. Lilac Soul (talk contribs count) 06:01, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

he lives

i thought he is suppossed to die in the book and thats not what it says in the article nor at the end of the book.-69.156.112.53 20:29, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

No offense, but that might be because you thought wrong... Lilac Soul (talk contribs count) 20:53, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Mistake in Plot Summary

I cannot believe this hasn't been pointed out yet, but there's a factual error in the plot synopsis: you say that the main trio (Harry, Ron and Hermione) see LUCIUS Malfoy with Draco in Borgin and Burkes, but in reality they see only DRACO Malfoy - it is in an earlier book (Chamber, methinks) where only Harry sees both of them in Borgin and Burkes. (84.42.154.82 21:14, 25 July 2007 (UTC)MrP)

Has apparently been fixed. Lilac Soul (talk contribs count) 20:53, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

There is an active proposal to delete Half-Blood Prince (character), which largely duplicates material from this article and from Severus Snape. Marc Shepherd 22:28, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

To anyone who checks this out now: Half-Blood Prince (character) redirects to the HBP book page - this article. Therefore this is no longer an issue. -Phi*n!x 23:43, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Fleur, The Weasley's and Fred and George

'To his family's dismay (mainly Ginny, Mrs Weasley, and Fred & George),'

Ummm...reading through HBP I can find no evidence whatsoever of Fred/George were particuarly opposed to the wedding or Fleur. Worse, the sentance implies that the entire family (such as Ron, Mr Weasley, Fred, George, Charlie, the chickens, the ghoul and Pigwidgeon) are opposed to Fleur. As I am unwilling to get an account, can someone who can change it turn it into

'To his family's dismay (mainly Ginny's , Mrs Weasley's, and Hermione's Fred & George),'

So the sentance turns into:

To Ginny's, Mrs Weasley's, and Hermione's dismay...

Well i dont think Dumbledore faked his death... Remember, he wasn't afraid of death? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mysterio967 (talkcontribs) 18:55, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

HBP

ok, when typing in hbp, you get some baseball thing. why isnt this a disambiguation or at least a link? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.118.144.236 (talk) 19:03, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

It's been fixed. Try it now. GeorgeLouis (talk) 03:13, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

It has a link to Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Book (film), but I'm not allowed to fix it, as I'm new. Can an admin please change it to Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (film)? C Teng (talk) 03:12, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Done. By the way, a semi-protected page, like this one, can be edited by anyone who has had an account for more than four days. If you wait a few days, you too can edit semi-proteced pages. Grey Maiden talk 03:17, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Lupin and Tonks

Lupin and Tonks is my absolute favorite pairing in the entire series, and the favorite of many others, so why is the monumental moment not recorded in the Plot Summary? I mean, it's nothing major, but if you don't mention it here, and then talk about DH, in which Teddy arrives, we might be in a jam for those who look up plot summaries instead of reading the books. Just a thought.

~~KT~~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kt tongue-tied (talkcontribs) 00:09, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Ditto on that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by PhoenixFeather111 (talkcontribs) 22:36, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Vampires

Can anyone list here the pages of when vampires are mentioned? I think their mentioned 3 times in the book, and can you get a small exert of whats mentioend about them. The Unbeholden (talk) 15:29, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Why? This isn't twilight; that's completely irrelevant —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.79.108.220 (talk) 00:53, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Plot Introduction

I think the "Plot introduction" section is too long, tedious, and completely superfluous. It is not in the book itself, and if one was actually interested (and, improbably, haven't read the series) one could just read the intros for the previous books' entries (preceded by, etc etc). I think the entire section should be deleted. 71.132.137.103 (talk) 21:00, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

I disagree. I think the Plot Summary should be self-contained, and in this case that means a summary of prior events. It could probably be shortened though.CharlesTheBold (talk) 04:01, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Dead or Disused Links

Dead or Disused Links I am sure the links are periodically tested. I noted that www.mugglenet.com redirects to a holding page. Rather than delete the link, I mention it so the page maintainer(s) can take appropriate action. Kerojack, Argenta (talk) 04:25, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
