Hagiography[edit]

This article seems properly documented but still reads like a hagiography. Can someone who knows something, describe his career and, possibly, cut down on the adulation? Tapered (talk) 23:55, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Addition of Citations[edit]

Can we please add the missing citations in this article?

Under Philanthropy: Plattner donated six million euros towards the prevention of HIV/AIDS. [1]

Under Philanthropy: Plattner signed The Giving Pledge in February 2013.[2]

Under Commitment to Education: The same university named him an honorary senator in 1998. [3]

Under Commitment to Education: It might be more clear if the term “lion’s share” were omitted. Instead, please consider the following:

Starting in 2015, Hasso Plattner Ventures became the “umbrella brand” for all direct investments made by Hasso Plattner. [4]

I have added the reference #3 to the university site, thank you. But I agree with the teahouse advice here, regarding the other sources. Even if some of the claims are not that controversial, it would be better to look for more independent or more in-depth sources for them (imo). GermanJoe (talk) 14:18, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Book[edit]

In 2015, Hasso Plattner published a book, co-written with Bernd Leukert, member of the Executive Board of SAP SE, called “The In-Memory Revolution: How SAP HANA Enables Business of the Future,” which describes the capabilities of the SAP HANA technology.[1] Harper70 (talk) 14:56, 9 September 2015 (UTC)Harper70[reply]

  • Added refs 1-3 as requested. However I hesitate to use ref 4 and 5, as blogs and press releases aren't really good sources for this kind of information. An indepedent article from a mainstream newspaper or journal would be better.
  • I partially agree with the "hagiography" comment in the previous post above. I certainly don't want to diminish Plattner's accomplishments, but the current article does indeed focus too much on "recognition" and "charity", and offers little to no neutral information about Plattner's business career (the original German article suffers from the same lack of encyclopedic balance, see WP:WEIGHT for more information). Especially his activities and achievements in SAP are clearly underrepresented in the article, and need significant more (neutral) coverage. On the other hand, descriptions of "recognition" and "charity" should focus only on the most notable facts, and should be summarized whereever possible.
