Notable buildings and areas[edit]

I will be adding a notable buildings and areas section shortly, which will largely seek to increase the account of the biodiversity of the area. I may add to or move some of the landmarks text accordingly. Paolo.oprandi (talk) 08:27, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The war[edit]

Article says "The village came into existence when construction of the railway was halted by the war". Which war was that? I think it ought to be specified. --A bit iffy 12:10, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gallery[edit]

Should this article have a gallery? See WP:IG for the relevant policy. I personally think it comes the section One rule of thumb to consider: if, due to its content, a gallery would only lend itself to a title along the lines of "Gallery" or "Images of Hassocks", as opposed to a more descriptive title, the gallery should either be revamped or moved to the Commons. The full descriptions, plus the fact that some of them are not on Commons, prevents me from being bold and unilaterally removing the gallery. ++ MortimerCat (talk) 05:42, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • From my point of view, and I guess I am biased as I contributed at least a couple of the photos, is that the photos and their descriptions add valuable information to the article. As an example Butchers Wood would never require an article of its own, it doesn't require a photo/mention in the Hassocks article but anyone who doesn't know Hassocks and wants to visit would possibly find it useful and interesting to know that there is an ancient woodland alongside the village. --Paste Let’s have a chat. 06:19, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I am not suggesting removing any photos and text, just the way they are arranged in a gallery. To me, it looks more like a picture book or travel guide than an encyclopaedia. I would use the text to expand the articles under the appropriate sections, illustrated by the pictures. For example, Butchers Wood would come under the section heading of Landmarks. Which platform are the Lifts going to be installed?[edit]

"The station is due for redevelopment in 2013, with the addition of lifts on either platform."
