Premature judgment?[edit]

[The film] received mixed reviews and grossed $114 million worldwide against its $150 million budget, making it a commercial failure.

But the article also mentions that it's streaming on Disney+. How does that figure into its value? Netflix produces many features that are never theatrically released, and they're doing okay. These days, it's hard to judge a film's success by how many tickets it sells. – AndyFielding (talk) 11:30, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the commercial failure remark as it was cited to an unreliable source. Streaming accounting is opaque, there are marketing and distribution costs to consider on the expenditure side, other revenue streams like merchandising are possible, maybe Disney will attribute some value to the project if it lets them sell a “movies based on rides” box set… we cannot deduce the film’s commercials just by comparing gross with budget. Remarks on commercial performance need to be reliably sourced. Barnards.tar.gz (talk) 23:19, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is a huge issue on film articles. Thanks for being proactive and removing it. Mike Allen 00:07, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
