Where Does Hazel Grove End? Where Does Bramall Begin? Where Does Great Moor Begin?[edit]

The village is also home to the MAN B&W factory, formerly Mirlees Blackstone, a major land owner and producer of industrial diesel engines for trains and ships. Other major employers are Adidas who have their main warehouse on the edge of Hazel Grove, and the nearby Stepping Hill hospital which is the main Maternity and A&E hospital serving the Stockport and South Manchester areas.

Strictly speaking Stepping Hill is in Great Moor/Stockport. Mirlees Blackstone in Flower Field/Bramall (possibly Hazel Grove/and or Woodsmoor?) (--eth01 12:03, 3 September 2007 (UTC)) and Adidas in Pepper Lane Farm/Bramall.[reply]

The person who cut it didn't give reasons, although historicly he is right. Even today, no part of Hazel Grove beyond New Bramall Ln/ Bramall Lane falls in Hazel Grove Ward (former distict HGandB DC). As i child i can remember Grove shops shutting at dinner on a Wednesday and that Unicorn Wines behind the George and Dragon was open but closed on a Thursday afternoon.

I propose a proper rephrasal would be:

Many residents commute outside of the village,and have done since the Railway came in the 1880s. However, in the the last five years has welcomed investment in the retail industry, employing several hundreds from the village and outlying areas. The Newbury Road Industrial Estate has numerous HQ sized sized national businesses and the New Pepper Lane Industrial Estate (although outlying traditional boundaries is a popular employer with major international companies represented there, including an International sportswear company).

The Stepping Hill Hospital is a major employer in the area. It can lay claim to the fact that it has served five generations of Stopfordians. Stepping Hill is also a Meternity Hospital and has been since 1957. Some Grovers beleive that they were "cheated" out of being full born Grovers by being born there. Alas, all births since the Parish of Stockport began in 1482, class local births as being in Stockport. A baptism at Norbury still means you are a Cestrian Stopfordian.

Depending on the boundaries used I think the pub/bar count is out. My tally shows

12 pubs on the main stretch: Pheonix, Anchor, Woodman, Bird in Hand, The Grove, Three Tonnes, The Cock, The Grapes, Horse and Jockey, White Hart, Bulls Head, Rising Sun

Village History[edit]

There is also an old Hazel Grove myth, in about 1846 it was said that a poor beggar boy by the name of Callum Bandres, went missing when he was out begging for food. His ghost is said to have been seen on numerous occasions, wearing a flat victorian hat and minimalistic clothes around the Hazel Grove area especially around the Hazel Grove library area.

10th. Hazel Grove Conservative Association|Conservative Association in Hazel Grove strictly speaking hazel grove con ac aren't political. They just are individual members of a group, who happen to be tories. Population of Hazel Grove (and Bramhall?!)[edit]

Why has Hazel Grove had the population conjoined with Bramhall? (I suggest that this is removed). --eth01 12:00, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the notice on my talk page. Historically (well from 1901 - 1974) Hazel Grove was lumped together with Bramhall (and later still with Woodford). However, I see no reason why anyone would choose to do that. But just a few points when deciding how to tally a population mark we can agree on:

Hazel Grove Ward has a population of 15,265 (2001) National Statistics

Bramhall East has a population of 15,926 (2001) [1]

Hazel Grove Ward does not include all of the "village" it excludes some of Macclesfield Road/Chester Road/Jacksons Lane Estates for example and includes Offerton Green Estate.

Bramhall East ward includes part of what we would call the "village".

I can't see an easy solution to this - but I suppose that the ward figure for Hazel Grove is probably more accurate as a guideline. But I would use caution and add the words estimate. I hope this adds to the debate, but I can't see anything wrong with being bold and removing the offending mention to the population of Bramhall. Mike33 - t@lk 19:54, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
