I think this is not necessary rather the article on health in Ghana should rather be revised with more added. The article on National Health Insurance (Ghana) is a very good one and must be kept separate. I think they should definitely be kept seperat, especially if we look at the recent additions I have added. We also have a public policy student coming through to add stuff as well. I removed the merge template and agree they should be separate now. The article came a long way since I last saw it and is much improved. My only comment is that I think the water supply and sanitation section should be moved down and more added to it regarding water-borne disease, etc. I assume water supply/sanitation is a main factor in disease but that isn't really mentioned in the section. I am going to finish looking over the National Health Insurance article today. There were some copyvios in it and the pictures don't appear to have proper licenses. Such as this one. I don't think the author actually made the logo and holds its license. Logos are usually uploaded under fair-use rationale and the license is with the organization.--NortyNort (Holla) 02:41, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Water supply and sanitation: "partly due to a neglect of the sector until the 1990s": too general - from what date? What is meant by tariffs reflecting cost of service in a developing country? Is it expected that the service should be self-financing? Your ref no.1 is a dead link, so I cannot check your source. "decentralization of the rural supply to 138 districts, where user participation is encouraged": The meaning of this is not clear; also note that there have been 170 districts since the reorganisation of Feb 2008.

- I take your point. But I think the criticism is still valid, and ought to be made on the source article too. If you agree with me, you might want to do this yourself, as it is not my project. There is always a risk in quoting from other wiki articles which may also be open to criticism. It is best to check against the original source material. Unfortunately the article you quote from also has a dead link, so can't be checked. I think you will have to modify your statement somehow, because it is obviously a very sweeping statement to say that the water service in Ghana has been neglected at all times prior to the 1990s unless you have some very solid evidence/research to back the statement up. Note that you still have a dead link here. For the number of districts, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Districts_of_Ghana - not all wiki articles are up to date on this change.
Healthcare: In the absence of a wiki link to Ghana Health Service, perhaps a reference or external link to http://www.ghanahealthservice.org/ would be more appropriate. Please correct typos in this section.

It's the order from the text I borrowed it from (its originally a US Gov. publication, so a little copyvio is fine, most of it is paraphrased though). Linked to Guinea worm, please fix aids->AIDS issue I don't see it.
- It is not a copyvio problem, but if the list is not alpha, people will wonder why you have chosen that order - it looks random, unless you give a reason, e.g. order of importance or order of prevalence.

Water and sanitation[edit]

I agree that it does seem out of place in the way it is currently written. However, I believe water and sanitation is very relevant as it affects health and the prevalence of diarrhea caused by parasites and other microbes in Ghana. Perhaps changing subheading1 to "Community Health" and having "Sanitation" and "Water Supply" as subheadings2 under the larger "Community Health" heading would make those topics more cohesive in the article. Also a discussion of geographical, financial, and political constrains to community health in Ghana would be appropriate here. Distinguishing between urban and suburban areas in this discussion is also necessary. Daisymartin (talk) 00:57, 18 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Article incomplete and unbalanced[edit]

The lead of this article talks about HIV/AIDS and malaria as key health issues, yet the later gets no coverage beyond the lead. At the same time less notable issues such as breast cancer get large sections devoted to them.--Shakehandsman (talk) 06:25, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Possible Additions and References[edit]

Hello, Wiki community! The following are proposed changes I would like to make to the article; please feel free to give me any feedback you have on my intentions and/or sources.

The "Disease" heading is severely lacking in description of diseases other than HIV/AIDS, so this reference would add information about the types of cancers common in Ghana and their percentage of occurrence in males and females; it would mostly give a broader overview of what is occurring and the specific statistics. ^[1]

Adding to the "Disease" heading, this reference would contribute to the "Cancer" subheading, specifically under cervical cancer. The information in the reference would describe the statistics of those affected by cervical cancer and to describe the epidemiology of cervical cancer in Ghana as a whole, although the data was taken specifically from Accra. More specifically, it will contribute information and statistics for cancer prevention. ^[2]

This reference would contribute to the "Disease" heading under the new subheading of "Cancer", specifically breast cancer. The information used would specify its origins in Kumasi, but would be used to classify possible treatments and preventative measures that exist and are used to battle breast cancer, such as adjuvant therapy and hormone status evaluation. ^[3]
