Earlier comment[edit]

Bunbury in Caught in Time claims his name was Jan Brouwer - anyone for a further detail onthis one?SatuSuro 13:57, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've seen it spelt Henderik, but never Jan, but who are we to question the fabulous Bill! -- I@n 14:24, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Two people[edit]

At the moment the biography describes two entirely different people. One must be a privateer, perhaps named Jan Brouwer according to above discussion. The other, for which the dates are correct, was Governor General of the Dutch Indies. He never went anywhere near South America, though he traveled quite a bit up and down to South East Asia. I'll remove the lines corresponding to the privateer, as the name is still not even established. Afasmit (talk) 01:39, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've come to the conclusion that there was only one person. The Enrique Brower who pillaged Valdivia in 1600 seems just a fictional transplant in some 19th century Spanish history book from the person who tried to establish a trading base there for the WIC 43 years later. I've scrapped the references to him as a pirate; unless anybody who sailed and opposed the Habsburg Empire in those days automatically is considered a pirate, Brouwer just doesn't seem to fit the description.
