Misspelled last name[edit]

Hello,

Is there an (intentional) reason why –although the spelling mistake is mentioned and acknowledged in the introduction of the article– this article has not been renamed to "Henri Diricx" (yet) to reflect the correct spelling of Diricx' last name? Regards, -- Martix (talk) 19:45, 19 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You need to use WP:RM. Key sources, including FIFA, use 'Dirickx'... GiantSnowman 08:35, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Be that as it may: certainly FIFA is a key source regarding statistics in international matches, (and UEFA for European matches, and so on), with respect to the family- and given name, FIFA is a derivative source in that respect: when stated facts are more personal, the source should be closer to the subject to be a key source. FIFA did not give this football player his name, his name was given to FIFA (who then evidently and acknowledgedly, used and kept using an incorrect spelling).
(Vice versa, when it comes to merits and tribulations (and the nature of the information is less personal and more public), the (independent) source should be farther away from the subject to be a reliable key source).
One could even argue that because FIFA (and/or whatever other sources that) provide incorrect data (as is proven and acknowledged), it should be invalidated as a reliable (key) source for this subject. Regards -- Martix (talk) 12:58, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
My edit (Diricx in Belgium) has been removed. I do not know why two surname are used, but such information is needed, see reference 3. Xx236 (talk) 09:53, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
