Prior Gate[edit]

I have added a {{fact}} tag to the sentence 'These strong connections gave High Street the alternative name of Prior Gate as late as the 1700s.' As far as I can tell the only mention of the name Prior Gate in the historical record is Gosling's 1736 plan of Sheffield. It appears that no one knows why Gosling wrote this name, and local historians have long argued about its significance. The connection of this street name with Worksop Priory is, as far as I can tell, just speculation. —Jeremy (talk) 09:38, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
