Stockholm Syndrome[edit]

Stockholm Syndrome is relevant, as against the editor who edited out my references to it. Refresh your memory about the 2012 Delhi gang rape and thousands of similar cases. Only a debased people will fail to see the unacceptability of what this movie "romanticizes." AchisDeGeth (talk) 10:38, 22 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Achis, please remain civil and don't attack someone. Stockholm Syndrome is indeed relevant to the article and omitting it would result in being biased violating one of the five-pillars of Wikipedia. That is not wanted. —Soham 11:06, 22 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Soham, - I fail to see how being frank and to-the-point is "uncivil" or an "attack on someone" (who?). I was general, pointing at people holding a mindset; I haven't said, if that's your implication, that misogyny is restricted to India, and which is what I think you are trying to put into my words. Misogyny, like the Stockholm Syndrome and nearly every other human tendency, is universal to humanity, and not "race-specific." People have a social responsibility. There was a social momentum that rose up, particularly in the general Delhi region, in the wake of the Delhi gang rape, and that had raised relevant issues, including the general perception that Bollywood is the driver for particular recidivist &/ atavist social tendencies that contributed to this crime and thousands of crimes like it. My edits were designed to keep up that drive; while I see that you have otherwise incorporated the fact that this movie is premised on the phenomenon of the Stockholm Syndrome, the way that you have changed the presentation takes the edge off that fact-presentation besides being factually incorrect: the movie doesn't "loosely portray the Stockholm Syndrome," on the contrary, the meat of the story is the Stockholm Syndrome. Does that escape you? Your watering down militates against the sense of social responsibility, which in a way is passive-ASBO behavior, by my books. However, I ain't here to run an EditWar, so I'll let your version stand (If reference to the Stockholm Syndrome is edited out completed, however, it is my responsibility to reinstate it, if I am let to). But let me put this poser to you: You will probably be aware that the most famous (as yet) case of Stockholm Syndrome was that of Patricia Hearst and of her abductors, the Afro-American radical communist terrorist Symbionese Liberation Army; lets suppose that Highway is actually just a plain retelling of the Patricia Hearst case - I would like to understand your gut instinctive response.AchisDeGeth (talk) 11:54, 22 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Please provide reliable sources like that support these claims otherwise they are no better than original research (I can't take your word for it). —Soham 12:02, 22 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Wow! What a response! I am reminded of a quip by a character of a Scotsman to an Englishman in a movie about Idi Amin. AchisDeGeth (talk) 12:10, 22 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't give a stinking rats-arse about what you think of my response but without reliable sources this original research cannot be added to the article. Plus don't go on canvassing to people like thisSoham 12:20, 22 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Achis, no I don't have passive ASBO behaviour as say you it to (can be considered as PA but I not considering it to be so) be and I am equally socially aware as you are and am a respectful, diligent, and dutiful citizen and know my responsibility in the society. Stretching this discussion beyond this would be converting wp into a forum which its NOT and is not a place to WP:RIGHTGREATWRONGS. Would it be okay if I converse on it you over email? —Soham 12:44, 22 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Stockholm syndrome thing was re-added by Soham in a separate section "Theme" citing a few reliable sources, which was later removed by Arjann, who asserted that that they did so "as per WP:ORIGINALSYN, WP:NOR, Slightly depicts a critics WP:CHERRYPICK sort of though source is valid". I have re-added the statement that the film is based on Stockholm syndrome, though in the lead section instead of creating a brand-new section.

I did so because I disagree with Arjann that WP:ORIGINALSYN, WP:NOR or WP:CHERRYPICK (any of those) applies here. WP:ORIGINALSYN states that one should "not combine material from multiple sources to reach or imply a conclusion not explicitly stated by any of the sources.". However, in this case, all the sources explicitly state that the film is based on Stockholm syndrome (correct me if they don't). WP:CHERRY (note that this is not a policy unlike WP:ORIGINALSYN) states that while cherry-picking, "instead of finding a balanced set of information about the subject (positive and negative), a coatrack goes out of its way to find facts that support a particular bias." Now, I am not supporting a particular bias by adding this fact, which is covered in reliable sources. There doesn't seem to be a reliable source that says that the film is not based on Stockholm syndrome, correct me if there is. Smtchahal (talk) 06:14, 26 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
