Separate pages for each album?[edit]

Should there be a separate page for each album in the series (like the WoW Series)? Or, should they all be summarized on this page? Allen (Morriswa) (talk) 19:29, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Allen (Morriswa). An album only has a Wikipedia article if it has been written about extensively by independent music critics and other journalists not connected with the album's creators, producers or retailers. It's premature to talk about more articles when this one is badly in need of such references. If some aren't found, the article may be nominated for deletion. Later, when this article is in better shape, if one or more of the albums meets Wikipedia's notability requirements for albums, a separate page can be created. In the meantime, potential readers can be brought to this page by creating redirect pages for the albums. I took a look at the WoW series you mentioned, and some of the recordings do have proper references, although many are sourced to the Recording Industry Association database, which isn't useful - just existing doesn't make a recording notable, and the database is created and maintained by non-neutral parties. Likely these articles will be improved over time.—Anne Delong (talk) 18:34, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Anne:
First, thank you for replying (nearly 3.5 years later! LOL).
Second, please look to my user page to verify how to properly refer to me. Thank you.
Thirdly, I never really understood that just because an album exists, it may not be notable. Is that because of the references or something else?
Thank you for all of your help. Charlotte Allison (Morriswa) (talk) 18:48, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Charlotte Allison (Morriswa), as I said further up the page, a topic has to be well-known in a broad sense before there is an encyclopedia article about it. For an album, that means that it has to have placed on a music chart, or written about by several music critics, or discussed on television or radio programs. Otherwise I could just make YouTube video of me snoring and create a Wikipedia article about it! If you were to make a separate article about a little-known album, other editors would come along and try to add references like that, and if they didn't find any they might nominate the article for deletion. However, even an album which is not well known can be mentioned on a more general page (perhaps about the band that performed it or the record label the produced it), provided that the general page itself is a notable topic.
Sorry, I didn't notice the date of your question; someone else made a small change to the page, which made it come on my watchlist. Sadly, it looks like no one has improved the article since you worked on it, so my comment was still valid. About your signature: Hardly anyone checks an editor's personal page before answering a question on a talk page; if you have other talk page comments signed with an outdated name and it bugs you when people respond to them, you can always find them with the search engine and update them. Happy editing!—Anne Delong (talk) 23:03, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
