drive for consensus[edit]

I don't think consensus can be formed with that user. No matter how I try to explain to her that the Japanese manual style say "ou" is romanized as "ō" and that unless the person or their company romanizes their name as "ou" we have to use "ō", she still won't listen. I asked the creator of the manual of style to explain things better to Lovelieheart and I will stop reverting. 夢追人YumeChaser 09:27, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

齋 vs 斎[edit]

What "official records" would these be?
His name is written as "齋藤" by the Asahi Shimbun, the Yomiuri Shimbun, Mainichi, Jiji News, and also by Poplar Publishing, so I think we should conform to the style they use, don't you? --DAJF (talk) 00:41, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You speak Japanese and you've never heard of any of those?! Seriously. Not being sarcastic. Wink up! and Potato are the Japanese equal to Tiger Beat and J-14 basically. They usually report about Johnny's Entertainment idols like KAT-TUN and NEWS but Hiro's been featured too. Utawara is Utawara Hot Hit 10. It's not airing anymore but Hiro appeared on an episode with a few other idols. So I would assume them to be reliable sources as any because teen magazines or not, they can't lie.

Why don't we put "齋藤 or 斉藤 智裕 Saito Tomohiro"? Because technically both could be right. They're pronounced the same. The 齋 is just the more common Chinese version. And for the sake of just having up to date info, obviously sources are using BOTH spellings anyway so we might as well record BOTH spellings.

ANN is a rough source yes but the other two are viable IMO. And besides, that still doesn't take away the fact that at least two magazines and a tv show reported his name with the spelling I gave. You seriously think spysee is reliable? When it also has a page for 齋藤 智裕? It's like saying we should include the spelling "Madona" in the Madonna article simply because there are sloppy sites out there that misspell her name. --DAJF (talk) 01:58, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Until the article about his winning the writing thing yesterday, everyone was spelling his name the way I said. Not all the articles are using that spelling. We can't confirm which is "wrong" because you can find sources supporting and using both. Most English sites favor my spelling. Most articles about the winning the writing thing support your spelling. They're different spellings of the same name. Like Dannie and Danny. If 齋藤 is not the kanji used in koseki, major media would not have used it. And of course, neither Mizushima himself. These are other kanji for Saito: 齊藤, 齊籐, 齋籐 and 斎籐. Sometimes Saito people with a difficult kanji "sai" use 斉藤 in daily life for their convenience, but as the publisher and major newspaper use 齋藤, it is definitely 齋藤. 斉藤 is wrong. Anyone can tell me why I can't find Hiro Mizushima name in Incredible Hulk wiki page, meanwhile in "Dubbing" section he is addeed as a dubber in Incredible Hulk?
