Hello, Names of large numbers, is 16 trillon on USA Standard numbers. besides that, the explanation you requestes is quite simple.

The peso moneda nacional was the currency of Argentina between November 5, 1881 and December 31, 1969

High inflation in the post-war period lead to the introduction of the peso ley in 1970 at the rate of 100 pesos monedas nacionales = 1 Argentine peso ley

The peso ley was itself replaced on May 5, 1983 by the peso argentino at a rate of 10,000 to 1.

on June 14, 1985 the peso argentino was replaced by the Austral at a rate of 1 austral = 1000 pesos argentinos

on December 31, 1991 the Austral was replaced by the peso (1992 - todays currency ) at a rate of 1 peso = 10,000 australes

then roughtly

1 peso (1992 - still in use as 2014)

10,000 Austral (1985 - 1991)

10,000,000 pesos argentinos (1983 - 1985)

100,000,000,000 peso ley (1970 - 1983)

10,000,000,000,000 peso moneda nacional (November 5, 1881 - 1969)

you can even go on with the Argentine peso moneda corriente (25 pesos moneda corriente = 1 peso moneda nacional) (9 January 1826 - 4 November 1881) with that you end at 250 trillon pesos moneda corriente = 1 peso 2014

10,000,000,000,000 Argentine peso moneda nacional (1914 - 1969) = just 1 peso from 2014. (or 16,700,000,000,000 Argentine peso moneda nacional of 1914 with the U.S. dollar as reference)

you should take into consideration too that the current peso that started at 1992, back then the rate of exchange with the dollar was 1 peso = 1 dollar

today 31 January 2014) official exchange rate (regulated market with resticctions to prevent ppl from exchanging pesos for dollars) is ~ 8 peso = 1 dollar. (free ilegal black market exchange rate is around 12.50 peso = 1 dollar)

Source and specific question[edit]

Hi: It's not clear to me what is the source of the information on this page. I downloaded the spreadsheet that is listed as a source, but the figures are somewhat different, if I am reading the spreadsheet right, from the numbers actually on this page. E.g. for July 1971, this page says the exchange rate was 5.3750, while in the spreadsheet (sheet 8.8, "Tipos de cambio histórico"), it seems to range between 4.4 and 4.7.

Meanwhile, I found this US document that gives quite different figures for March, 1965, at least.

I ask specifically because I am interested in how much 7 million Argentine pesos would be in USD in September/November 1965. An answer to that question, or where to find reliable data, would be much appreciated.
