William de Braose[edit]

The link to William de Braose currently leads to a disambiguation page. Someone with more knowledge of the topic should correct the link to go to the correct William. --Bill 23:42, 1 February 2006 (UTC) Link no longer there. Doug (talk) 13:00, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This article is too "wordy" - ie no headings to break up the text. I shall attempt a rewrite Peter Shearan 10:45, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
and I have just discovered it - almost word-for-word at http://encyclopedia.jrank.org/SUS_TAV/SUSSEX.html Which one copied from which? It reads like it is - the 1911 Encyclopedia - full of odd-sounding phrases. Surely Wikipedia deserves better than this in 2006? The query above is typical - who was William de Braose and to what do we owe his apparently unique fame in connection with the history of Sussex? Peter Shearan 11:26, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am still not over-satisfied with the result, but will leave it at that. At least the article is now under headings, and doesn't contain too much of the flavour of an early encyclopedia! I am sure others will now wish to amend what I have done, but it will be a more simple job with it being divided up. Incidentally, I have included the reference I quoted above under External links, so that readers have not completely lost all the "facts" given. I note, however, that at least one more modern reference doubts the authenticity of the date 477 given at the outset of the original article. Peter Shearan 12:59, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Portus Adurni[edit]

Under the Romans section, I have removed the reference to the Saxon-shore port Portus Adurni (Portchester Castle) being in the area that would become Sussex, as Portchester is in Hampshire near Gosport, and so is not relevant to this article. The reference to Anderita (Pevensey Castle) remains. Stuart Johnson, 09.36, 14 November 2008 (UTC) hi man

The Saxons[edit]

I have blanked the Saxons section and put a link in to the Kingdom of Sussex. It seems pointless duplicating info here, when there is already a full article on the history of the Saxons in Sussex.Wilfridselsey (talk) 12:42, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
