The article is about the experiment with the "composite eight" in 1976.

The creation of the eight and it's racing at the National Rowing Championships in 1976 permanently changed the methods of selecting the Great Britain junior eight and also affected the selection process for the other sweep-oared boats in following years.

Since that year no GB Junior eight has competed in the Junior World Championships comprised of just one school or club.

This subject was deemed to be significant enough to appear on a national ITV evening news program in 1976.
